LAKE ELSINORE, CA - The losing skid for the Storm continues to rise after each night. After yesterday’s 21-2 loss to the Giants, Lake Elsinore kept it much closer this time around but San Jose still came away with a 6-3 win.
For the first time in the series, the Storm got on the board first. Lake Elsinore kicked off the scoring right away with a solo-home run from Joe Tiroly. It’s the third baseman's second long-ball since getting drafted in the seventh round last month. But the Giants responded immediately. With the bases loaded, Broedy Poppell drew a walk and tied the game. One batter later, Josuar Gonzalez laced a two-run single to center and San Jose immediately took the lead and never looked back.
Lake Elisnore answered with one in the bottom of the second when the Storm executed a double-steal to perfection. Alex Conover came in to score and made it just a one run game.
The score would remain 3-2 entering the seventh and then San Jose added some run support. With two on and one out, Gonzalez added his third and fourth RBI to his tally on a double to center. Right after, Lorenzo Meola sharply singled to right and scored Gonzalez to extend the lead to 6-2. Once again, Lake Elsinore got one back in the bottom of the inning off a wild pitch that scored Jesmaylin Arias, but that would be the end of any chance for a late-game comeback. The Storm have now lost the first five games of this series and six overall, the longest losing skid this season.
Lake Elsinore returns to action on Sunday to face San Jose for game six of the six-game set from Diamond Stadium. This is the second series of the year between the Storm and the Giants with San Jose leading Lake Elsinore 8-3. The Storm will send RHP Luis Maracara (2-3, 6.92) to the mound to face off against Giants RHP Keyner Martinez (3-5, 5.42). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. PT.
