
Moosic, Pennsylvania (September 4, 2026) – Christian Cairo hit the first leadoff homer of the year for the ‘Pigs and Keaton Anthony added a solo shot later in the frame, but the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (28-32, 63-72) never scored again in a 9-2 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (35-24, 72-61) on Friday night at PNC Field.
Cairo’s homer was his fourth of the season while Anthony’s was his ninth. The ‘Pigs nearly added a third run in the frame, but Carter Kieboom was thrown out at the plate on a Colby Thomas base hit.
Scranton rallied to take the lead with a six-run second. Back-to-back RBI doubles from Yanqiuel Fernandez and Ernesto Martinez tied the game before an Anthony Volpe two-run homer gave them the lead. RBI singles for Marco Luciano and Oswaldo Cabrera capped the frame to make it 6-2.
A J.C. Escarra sacrifice fly in the sixth made it 7-2 before Jarred Kelenic iced the game with a two-run homer in the seventh.
Hayden Merda (W, 1-0) struck out six in 2.2 scoreless innings of relief to get the win for SWB while Brian Keller (L, 1-5) took the loss for the ‘Pigs, allowing six runs in 2.2 innings.
The ‘Pigs and RailRiders continue their series on Saturday, September 5th with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. at PNC Field. Chuck King gets the ball for the ‘Pigs against Xavier Rivas for SWB.
