Worcester, Massachusetts (August 7, 2026) – Paul McIntosh hit a solo homer in the ninth inning to make it a one-run game, but the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (17-20, 52-60) couldn’t muster any magic after it, falling 5-4 to the Worcester Red Sox (23-13, 59-48) on Friday night at Polar Park.
A pair of RBI doubles from Keaton Anthony and Tommy Pham spotted the ‘Pigs an early 2-0 lead in the first, but the WooSox had the game tied by the end of the fourth thanks to a second-inning Mikey Romero solo homer and fourth inning Alan Castro sacrifice fly.
Franklin Arias brought home two with a double in the fifth to give Worcester their first lead of the game, a lead they would never relinquish.
The ‘Pigs made it a one-run game in the seventh on a Robert Moore RBI single, but a run-scoring error made it a two-run lead for the WooSox again in the eighth.
McIntosh’s homer came with two outs in the ninth to give the ‘Pigs hope, but a lineout ended the game.
Noah Song (W, 2-2) got the win in relief for the WooSox with 3.1 scoreless innings while Michael Mercado (L, 4-4) took the loss for the ‘Pigs, allowing two runs in 2.2 frames. Angel Bastardo (S, 2) got the final six outs for Worcester, the only baserunner against him being McIntosh’s homer.
The ‘Pigs and WooSox continue their series on Saturday, August 8th at Polar Park with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m. Brian Keller gets the start for the ‘Pigs while the WooSox go with Gage Ziehl.
