Syracuse, New York (September 20, 2026) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (33-41, 68-81) snapped a six-game losing streak and sailed off into the sunset of the 2026 season with a 5-4 11-inning win over the Syracuse Mets (43-31, 81-68) Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium.
The Mets opened the scoring with a Jose Ramos two-run homer in the second, but back-to-back jacks from Colby Thomas and Raider Tello tied the game for the ‘Pigs in the fourth.
Christian Cairo’s RBI base hit gave the Mets the lead back in the 7th, but Otto Kemp countered with a sacrifice fly to even it back up immediately in the eighth.
The game went to extras still knotted at 3-3. After the ‘Pigs failed to score the placed runner in their half of the 10th, the Mets had the winning run at third with nobody out when Tello saved the day, spearing a hop-smash at shortstop with a dive and preventing the winning run from scoring. From there, Mitch Neunborn (W, 1-1) loaded the bases with a pair of intentional walks before a pair of weak fly outs got him thru the jam.
In the 11th, a Kemp base hit scored the placed runner before Kemp came around on a Paul McIntosh double for an insurance run. The Mets got one run in the last of the 11th on a fielder’s choice, but Neunborn sealed the deal, stranding the tying run at third and winning run at second.
Brian Metoyer (L, 5-2) took the loss for the Mets, charged with both runs in the 11th (one earned) after getting thru the 10th unscathed.
With that, the 2026 season comes to a conclusion for the IronPigs. They will begin the 2027 season on March 26th when they travel to take on the Norfolk Tides before hosting the Worcester Red Sox on March 30th for their home opener.
