JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Memphis Redbirds began a six-game series against the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A, Milwaukee Brewers) with a 13-2 victory on Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.
Memphis jumped out early in a big way. The Redbirds rallied for eight runs in the bottom of the second on nine hits, the second most hits in an inning this season. Third baseman Nolan Gorman capped off the frame with a three-run homer to right-center field. The left-handed hitter has hit five home runs in his last seven games played.
Mamphis tallied 20 hits in the victory. All 10 Redbirds batters recorded at least one single. Catcher Leo Bernal and first baseman Ramon Mendoza each smacked four hits in the victory. Center fielder Victor Scott II tallied a three-hit night while shortstop Thomas Saggese and right fielder Colton Ledbetter both went 2-for-5.
Starting pitcher Brandt Thompson (2-1) allowed one unearned run on six hits, walked one and struck out three in 5.0 innings pitched. The right-handed pitcher has allowed two runs or fewer in four straight Triple-A appearances and five straight appearances overall. Cade Winquest and Ryan Fernandez combined for 3.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Memphis Redbirds return to AutoZone Park on Wednesday, August 5 to begin a six-game homestand against the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A, Milwaukee Brewers) with first pitch scheduled for 6:45 p.m. CDT.
