MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Redbirds wrapped up a six-game series against the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A, Milwaukee Brewers) with a 7-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
Starting pitcher Ixan Henderson dominated in his Triple-A debut on Sunday afternoon. The left-handed pitcher worked 4.2 hitless, scoreless innings and walked four in his first start off the Injured List. Ryan Fernandez (4-2) and Cade Winquest combined for 2.1 scoreless frames out of the bullpen.
Designated hitter Nolan Gorman slapped his 11th home run at Triple-A in the bottom of the first inning to start the set the tone for the offense. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-5 in the win and has hit seven home runs in his last 11 games. First baseman Leo Bernal drilled a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth as part of a four-run, nine-batter inning to grab firm control of the game.
The Redbirds stole a season-high six bases in the victory, two more than the previous mark at the start of play Sunday. Six of the nine batters in the starting lineup tallied a stolen base. Eight of the nine starters and nine of the 10 players with a plate appearance tallied a base hit.
The Memphis Redbirds return to AutoZone Park on Tuesday, August 18 to begin a six-game homestand against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Triple-A, Miami Marlins) with first pitch scheduled for 6:45 p.m. CDT.
