MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Redbirds continued a six-game series against the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A, Milwaukee Brewers) with a 2-1 loss on Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
Starting pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje (0-3) posted the best outing of his four Triple-A starts. The switch pitcher went the first 4.0 frames of his 5.0-inning outing scoreless, allowed three hits, walked three and struck out a Triple-A career high seven batters. Jared Shuster dominated over 3.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen and struck out four. Ryan Fernandez worked a scoreless ninth.
Center fielder Victor Scott II and shortstop Thomas Saggese combined to tally four of the seven Memphis hits in the loss. Saggese reached safely three times in the game and scored the lone Redbirds run on a center fielder Chase Davis sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Memphis Redbirds return to AutoZone Park on Friday, August 7 to continue a six-game homestand against the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A, Milwaukee Brewers) with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT.
