MIDLAND, Texas (September 23, 2026) - The RockHounds shortstop, Leo De Vries was also selected as the league’s top MLB prospect after hitting .290 with 13 home runs and 34 stolen bases in his first full Double-A season.
He was not only one the league’s top players but, at age 19, was also among the youngest in the circuit.
He slashed .290/.378/.458 with 13 homers and 34 stolen bases, finishing among the Texas League’s top 10 hitters in steals (6th), batting average (7th) and on-base percentage (9th) and was also among the league leaders in OPS (.836 / 11th) and slugging percentage (13th).
He was selected to play in the All-Star Futures Game, marking his second consecutive appearance in the prestigious mid-season event.
In his last 22 games, before being sidelined by a shoulder injury, he slashed .330/.412/.557) for the ‘Hounds.
The Dominican Republic native is the Athletics’ # 1 prospect according to by both the MLB Pipeline and Baseball America and is rated the # 2 and # 3 overall prospect, respectively, in all of Minor League Baseball by the same sources.
De Vries was acquired by the A’s on July 31, 2025, in the high-profile trade that sent All-Star reliever (and former RockHound) Mason Miller to the San Diego Padres.
Following the trade, he was assigned to the RockHounds in mid-August and helped the club reach the Texas league Championship Series, hitting .421 with three home runs and six RBI in five playoff games.
Leo’s 2026 season ended prematurely (he last played on August 14), and he subsequently underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, with recovery time expected to be eight months.
Despite the setback, MLB.com’s scouting report says Leo’s “combination of offensive upside, makeup, feel for the game and ability to rise to challenges still make him an elite prospect.”
