PENSACOLA, FL (August 5, 2026) – The Montgomery Biscuits built a commanding early lead and withstood a late Pensacola rally to defeat the Blue Wahoos, 9-7, on Wednesday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium. T.J. Nichols delivered 7.0 strong innings before Roel Garcia III recorded the final three outs to secure the victory.
Montgomery (54-50) erupted for six runs in the third inning. Caden Bodine opened the scoring with a two-run single to right that plated Gregory Barrios and Mac Horvath. Xavier Isaac followed with an RBI single to center to score Bodine before a balk brought home Cooper Kinney to make it 4-0. Will Simpson capped the inning with a two-run single to center, scoring Theo Gillen and Isaac for a 6-0 advantage.
Pensacola (56-48) got on the board in the fourth when Brandon Compton connected on a solo home run to left-center, trimming the lead to 6-1.
The Biscuits answered immediately in the fifth as Gillen launched a solo home run to left-center, extending the lead to 7-1.
Montgomery added two more insurance runs in the seventh when Simpson lined a two-run double to left, scoring Gillen and Isaac to make it 9-1.
The Blue Wahoos mounted a comeback late in the game. Jay Beshears tripled home Ethan O'Donnell in the eighth before scoring on a groundout to cut the deficit to 9-3.
Pensacola added four more runs in the ninth on Brandon Compton's RBI single, Brendan Jones' two-run double, and Beshears' sacrifice fly, but Garcia III induced the final three outs in relief to preserve the 9-7 victory.
Montgomery collected 12 hits in the win. Gillen finished 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored, and an RBI, while Simpson went 2-for-5 with a double (XBH in six straight games) and four RBI. Isaac was 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, Horvath added two hits, and Bodine drove in two runs with his third-inning single.
Nichols (1-4) earned his first victory after allowing one run on three hits over 7.0 innings while striking out seven. Junior William allowed six runs in the eighth and ninth before Roel Garcia III recorded the final three outs for his first save of the season.
Luis Moreno (5-6) took the loss for Pensacola after allowing six runs on five hits over 2.1 innings. Leivan Reinoso surrendered one run over 3.2 innings, and Josh Hejka allowed two runs across the final 3.0 innings.
