Biscuits Fall 7-6 to Blue Wahoos in Series Opener

Montgomery rallies late but leaves tying run at third in ninth inning

MONTGOMERY, AL (August 25, 2026) – The Montgomery Biscuits dropped a 7-6 decision to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Tuesday night at DABOS Park.

Pensacola jumped out to an early lead in the first inning against Montgomery starter Jackson Baumeister. Adrian Santana and Juan Matheus reached to begin the game before Brandon Compton launched a three-run homer to right-center field, giving the Blue Wahoos a 3-0 advantage.

The Biscuits responded immediately in the bottom half. Cooper Kinney reached on a throwing error that allowed Mac Horvath to score, and Theo Gillen followed with an RBI groundout to bring Montgomery within 3-2.

Montgomery tied the game in the second when J.T. Arruda scored on a single to right by Horvath, and the Biscuits took their first lead in the third. Gillen stole second base before scoring on a throwing error by Pensacola catcher Ryan Ignoffo, putting Montgomery ahead 4-3.

Pensacola regained the lead in the fifth as Matheus lined a two-run single to right, scoring Dylan Jasso and Santana. Matheus struck again in the seventh, launching a two-run homer to left field to extend the Blue Wahoos' advantage to 7-4.

The Biscuits mounted a late rally, scoring on wild pitches in both the eighth and ninth innings. Gillen scored on a wild pitch by Nigel Belgrave in the eighth before Gregory Barrios crossed the plate on another wild pitch in the ninth to cut the deficit to 7-6, but Montgomery could not complete the comeback.

Horvath and Barrios each recorded two hits to lead the Biscuits offensively. Gillen went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored and his 14th stolen base, while Arruda added a hit, walk and run scored.

Baumeister was charged with the loss and fell to 4-5 after allowing five runs, four earned, on four hits over 5.0 innings. Chris Clark allowed two runs over 2.0 innings, while Hayden Snelsire finished the game with 2.0 scoreless innings without allowing a hit.
