MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (August 15, 2026). – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (18-29, 45-66) took game five of the series against the Hill City Howlers (17-30, 48-55) 5-1 on Saturday night at Pelicans Ballpark. With the win, the Pelicans lead the weeklong series 3-2.
Pelicans infielder Juan Cabada turned in his best performance of the season as a bird, going 3-3 with a home run and two RBI.
The Birds received a stellar performance from RHP Riely Hunsaker (4-3, 5.07). Hunsaker hurled 5.0 innings of one-run ball while striking out a career-high eight en route to the win.
The Pelicans started the scoring in the bottom of the second. Ethan Conrad led off the inning with a single. Corey Nunez followed with a single coupled with a fielding error, which scored Conrad to give the Pelicans a 1-0 lead. With Nunez on third, Derik Alcantara hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Nunez to make the score 2-0.
The Howlers sliced the deficit in half in the top of the third. Alejandro Blasco lined a double and then scored on an RBI double from Jonathan Martinez to make the game 2-1.
Myrtle Beach tacked on another run in the bottom of the third. Jan Reyes and Cabada started the inning with singles. After a groundout moved both runners into scoring position, Caden Sorrell lined an RBI single which moved the score 3-1.
The Pelicans added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run inside-the-park home run from Cabada (1) to extend the lead to 5-1.
Hunsaker received the win for the Pelicans. RHP Erigaldi Perez (2-4, 6.48) was tagged with the loss for the Howlers. RHP Sam Mettert (S,2) got the save.
Myrtle Beach will conclude the first part of their two-week homestand at Pelicans Ballpark against the Hill City Howlers (Single-A Guardians) on Sunday, August 16. First pitch is slated for 6:35 PM. RHP Freddy Rodriguez (0-1, 16.88) will start on the hill for the Pelicans. LHP Miguel Flores (7-6, 4.87) gets the nod for the Howlers.
