Cabada’s Clutch Hitting Leads Pelicans Over GreenJackets 6-5

Hunsaker fans six over five innings in victory

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (August 29, 2026). – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (20-38, 47-75) took game five of their six-game set against the Augusta GreenJackets (32-26, 67-57) 6-5 at SRP Park on Saturday night. With the win, the Pelicans still trail the GreenJackets in the weeklong series 2-3.

The Pelicans trailed the GreenJackets 3-1 entering the top of the seventh when the Birds mounted a comeback. Jhoander Irigoyen was walked and then moved to second on a wild pitch. After Eli Lovich drew a walk, Alexis Hernandez smacked a two-run double to tie the game 3-3. The next batter Jose Silva was plunked and then both runners advanced into scoring position on a passed ball. Juan Cabada followed with a two-run single to put the Birds ahead 5-3.

Augusta struck back in the bottom of the seventh. Dominic Kibler hit a leadoff double. After Nick Montgomery was walked, Yamvier Carrero reached on a fielding error to load the bases. Then Manuel Campos hit an RBI sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 5-4.

The Pelicans added one more run in the top of the ninth to make the score 6-4. Hernandez got aboard via a walk and soon stole second. After a grondout moved Hernandez to third, Cabada lined an RBI single to bring home the insurance run.

The GreenJackets attempted to mount a late-inning comeback. Nick Montgomery smacked a double and then moved to third on a groundout. The next batter Campos reached on a fielding error that brought home Montgomery to make the score 6-5 but that was where the rally would end.

Augusta got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run from Juan Mateo (6) to jump in front 2-0.

The Greenjackets stretched their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third on a solo home run from Campos (2).

The Pelicans responded in the top of the fourth. Darlyn De Leon singled and then moved to third on an errant pickoff. A batter later Irigoyen reached on a fielding error which scored De Leon to make the game 3-1.

RHP Ashton Pocol (1-0, 0.00) received the win for the Pelicans. RHP Nico Wagner (1-1, 6.43) was tagged with the loss for the GreenJackets. RHP Jordan Henriquez (S,5) received the save.

Myrtle Beach will conclude their final roadtrip of the season on Sunday, August 30 against the Augusta GreenJackets (Single-A Braves) at SRP Park. First pitch is slated for 5:05 PM. RHP Chase Meyer (0-0, 1.23) starts on the hill for the Pelicans. LHP Wil Holmes (0-0, 0.00) will get the nod for the GreenJackets.
