COLUMBIA, S.C. (August 9, 2026). – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (15-27, 42-64) took the series finale against the Columbia Fireflies (20-19, 53-51) 10-1 on Sunday night at Segra Park. The Pelicans fell in the weeklong series 4-2.
Trailing the Fireflies 1-0 entering the top of the second, the Pelicans offense sparked. Corey Nunez drew a walk and then scored on an RBI triple from Derik Alcantara to tie the game at 1-1. The next batter Fernando Cruz lined an RBI double to give the Pelicans a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the fourth, the Birds offense struck again. Nunez worked a walk and then moved to second on a single from Alcantara. Then Cruz slapped a single. After Jan Reyes grounded into a forceout that retired Nunez at home and allowed Reyes to reach. A batter later Jose Silva drew a bases loaded walk to bring home another run to make the score 3-1. The next batter Ethan Conrad smacked a bases clearing double to extend the score to 6-1.
The Pelicans added three more runs in the top of the eighth courtesy of a three-run blast from Conrad (4) to make the score 9-1.
Myrtle Beach added one more in the top of the ninth on a groundout from Reyes with runners in scoring position to move the score to 10-1.
RHP David Bracho (3-4, 6.65) received the win for the Pelicans. LHP Darwin Rodriguez (5-6, 4.01) was tagged with the loss for the Fireflies.
Myrtle Beach will have the day off tomorrow before returning to Pelicans Ballpark to start the first part of a two-week homestand against the Hill City Howlers (Single-A Guardians) on Tuesday, August 11. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM. Both teams starting pitchers have yet to be announced.
