Pelicans Drop Game Two To Woodpeckers 19-1

Sorrell smacks second triple in defeat

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (August 19, 2026). – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (18-31, 45-68) fell in game two of the six-game series against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (28-20, 60-53) 19-1 on Wednesday night at Pelicans Ballpark. With the loss, the Pelicans trail in the weeklong series 0-2.

Trailing the Woodpeckers 19-0 in the bottom of the ninth, the Pelicans offense mustered a run. Darlyn De Leon worked a walk and then scored on an RBI single from Caden Sorrell to dash the shutout.

Fayetteville started the scoring in the top of the first. With the bases loaded, Owen Nowak drew a walk to make the score 1-0. Arturo Flores followed with another walk to increase the lead to 2-0. The next batter Petey Soto Jr. was plunked to bring in another run which gave the Woodpeckers a 3-0 advantage.

The Woodpeckers added to the lead in the top of the second with a two-run home run from Kevin Alvarez (10), which made the score 5-0.

In the top of the fourth the Woodpeckers smashed a solo home run, courtesy of Kam Durnin (2) which made the score 6-0.

Fayetteville added three more runs in the top of the fifth, capped off by a two-run home run from Logan Hughes (1) to extend the lead to 9-0.

The Woodpeckers put up eight more runs in the top of the eighth. Waner Luciano (8) smacked a two-run home run to move the lead to 11-0. After a bases loaded walk surrendered to Soto Jr. scored another run, German Ramirez roped an RBI single to bring the score to 13-0. With the bases loaded, Durnin worked a walk which scored another run to make the score 14-0. A groundout from Hughes scored another runner to increase the Woodpeckers lead to 15-0. Then Alvarez and Luciano hit RBI singles to make the score 17-0.

Fayetteville score two more in the top of the ninth on a two-run single from Hughes to bring the score to 19-0.

RHP Juan Fraide (6-1, 2.65) received the win for the Woodpeckers. RHP Jubrayker Salaya (0-1, 8.31) was tagged with the loss for the Pelicans. Because he went the minimum of three innings and surrendered a run, RHP Jose Serrano (S,1) got the save.

Myrtle Beach will continue their six-game series at Pelicans Ballpark against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (Single-A Astros) on Thursday, August 20. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM. RHP Chase Meyer (0-0, 2.70) will start on the hill for the Pelicans. RHP Ryan Verdugo (6-4, 4.68) gets the nod for the Woodpeckers.
