MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (August 11, 2026). – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (15-28, 42-65) dropped the series opener against the Hill City Howlers (16-27, 47-52) 9-4 on Tuesday night at Pelicans Ballpark. The Pelicans currently trail in the weeklong series 1-0.
With the score tied at 1-1, Hill City took the lead and didn’t look back in the top of the fourth. Deiten Lachance was walked and then stole second base. After a single from Reiner Herrera advanced Lachance to third, Lachance scored on an errant throw down to second which gave the Howlers a 2-1 lead. A batter later, Erick Dessens grounded out which scored another run to increase the lead to 3-1.
The Howlers tacked on four more runs in the top of the fifth. Lucas Moore lashed a single and then stole second and third. The next batter Ben Cleary lined an RBI double to extend the score to 4-1. After Cleary stole third, Lachance was plunked. With Herrera batting, a balk scored Cleary to make the game 5-1. Following Herrera drawing a walk, Gabriel Rodriguez lined an RBI single to give Hill City a 6-1 lead. One batter later another balk scored another run to make the lead 7-1.
In the top of the sixth, Alejandro Blasco walked and then moved to second on a groundout. After Blasco stole third, Cleary hit an RBI single to make the game 8-1.
The Pelicans attempted to mount a comeback in the bottom of the eighth. Caden Sorrell drew a two-out walk and then moved to third on a single from Alexis Hernandez. The next batter Ethan Conrad smacked a two-run triple to cut the deficit to 8-3. Then Jhoander Irigoyen hit an RBI single to score Conrad which sliced the lead in half 8-4.
Hill City added one more run in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Gabriel Rodriguez to extend the lead to 9-4.
The Howlers started the scoring in the top of the second. Dessens hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Lachance to score.
Myrtle Beach tied the game 1-1 in bottom of the second on an RBI single from Corey Nunez.
RHP Miguel Flores (7-6, 4.87) received the win for the Howlers. RHP Freddy Rodriguez (0-2, 20.25) was tagged with the loss for the Pelicans.
Myrtle Beach will continue their six-game homestand at Pelicans Ballpark against the Hill City Howlers (Single-A Guardians) on Wednesday, August 12. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM. RHP Jubrayker Salaya (0-0, 0.00) will start on the hill for the Pelicans. RHP Will Hynes (0-1, 11.74) gets the nod for the Howlers.
