MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (August 14, 2026). – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (17-29, 44-66) dropped game four of the series against the Hill City Howlers (17-29, 48-54) 11-7 on Friday night at Pelicans Ballpark. With the loss, the Pelicans are now tied in the weeklong series 2-2.
Myrtle Beach led the Howlers 3-1 entering the top of the seventh when the Howlers mounted a furious comeback. Deiten Lachance singled and then moved to second on a walk drawn by Jonathan Martinez. After a double steal, Ben Cleary lined a single coupled with a fielding error which scored both runners to tie the game at 3-3. After Cleary swiped second, Jhorvic Abreus walked and then stole second. The next batter Yerlin Luis walked to load the bases. The next batter Alejandro Garza drew a walk to bring in the go-ahead run 4-3. In the ensuing at-bat Alejandro Blasco lined a two-run single to stretch the score to 6-3.
The Pelicans struck back in the bottom of the seventh. Derniche Valdez led off with a single. The next batter Ivan Cespedes worked a walk. After a wild pitch moved both runners up a base. Juan Cabada followed with an RBI sacrifice fly that scored a run to cut the lead to 6-4.
Hill City tacked on four more runs in the top of eighth, capped off by a two-run double from Garza to extend the lead to 10-4.
Myrtle Beach attempted to mount a comeback in the bottom of the eighth. Ethan Conrad led off the frame with a single and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Then Jhoander Iriogyen singled home Conrad to make the score 10-5. The next batter Derik Alcantara (1) smashed a two-run homer to trim the score to 10-7.
The Howlers put up one more run in the top of the ninth. With a runner on second, Cleary reached base on a fielding error which scored Martinez to move the lead to 11-7.
Hill City started the scoring in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by Lachance to give the Howlers a 1-0 lead.
The Pelicans took the lead in the bottom of the second. Corey Nunez singled and then Eli Lovich followed with a walk. Then Valdez lined a two-run triple to bring the score 2-1.
RHP Keegan Zinn (5-4, 7.04) was tagged with the win for the Howlers. LHP Hayden Frank (3-7, 5.04) was tagged with the loss for the Pelicans.
Myrtle Beach will continue their six-game homestand at Pelicans Ballpark against the Hill City Howlers (Single-A Guardians) on Saturday, August 15. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM. RHP Riely Hunsaker (3-3, 5.32) will start on the hill for the Pelicans. RHP Erigaldi Perez (2-3, 7.57) gets the nod for the Howlers.
