MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (August 13, 2026). – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (17-28, 44-65) took game three of the series against the Hill City Howlers (16-29, 47-54) 11-4 on Thursday night at Pelicans Ballpark. With the win, the Pelicans have taken control of the weeklong series 2-1.
RHP Chase Meyer (0-0, 2.70) made his pro ball and Pelicans debut, tossing 3.1 innings of one-run ball while surrendering two hits and registering six strikeouts.
Leading the Howlers 5-4 entering the bottom of the eighth, the Pelicans offense ignited. Ivan Cespedes reached base after being plunked. With Jan Reyes pinch running for Cespedes, Juan Cabada smacked a double to move Reyes to third. Jose Silva followed with an RBI single to move the lead to 6-4. The next batter Caden Sorrell lined an RBI single to stretch the score to 7-4. After Sorrell stole second, Corey Nunez drew a walk to load the bases. Then Derniche Valdez crushed a bases-clearing triple which made the score 10-4. Valdez would then score on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 11-4.
The score was tied 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh when the Pelicans took the lead. Ethan Conrad led off the inning with a triple and then scored on an RBI single from Nunez, which gave the Birds’ a 5-4 advantage.
Hill City started the scoring in the top of the first. Lucas Moore lined a single and then moved to second when Jonathan Martinez drew a walk. After a groundout put Moore on third, Gabriel Rodriguez grounded out to the pitcher which brought home Moore to make the score 1-0 Howlers.
Myrtle Beach tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Conrad.
The Pelicans grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second. Derik Alcantara and Fernando Cruz walked. After a groundout put Alcantara on third, Cabada hit a ground ball that allowed the runner to score, making the game 2-1.
The Birds’ put up two more runs in the bottom of the third. Sorrell led off the frame with a single and later scored on an RBI ground-rule double from Nunez to extend the lead to 3-1. A batter later Valdez hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Nunez to move the score to 4-1.
Hill City tied the game 4-4 in the top of the fifth, scoring on a wild pitch, a passed ball, and a sacrifice fly from G.Rodriguez.
RHP Luke Alwood (1-0, 0.00) was tagged with the win for the Pelicans. RHP Ryan Bilka (0-1, 9.00) was tagged with the loss for the Howlers.
Myrtle Beach will continue their six-game homestand at Pelicans Ballpark against the Hill City Howlers (Single-A Guardians) on Friday, August 14. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM. RHP Daniel Avitia (2-3, 4.83) will start on the hill for the Pelicans. LHP Ryan Desanto (2-2, 3.83) gets the nod for the Howlers.
