Pelicans Toppled By Woodpeckers 12-3 In Weather-Shortened Contest

Cabada hammers second homer in defeat

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (August 21, 2026). – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (18-33, 45-70) dropped game four of the six-game series against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (30-20, 62-53) 12-3 after the game was called due to inclement weather following the top of the ninth on Friday night at Pelicans Ballpark. With the loss, the Pelicans trail in the weeklong series 0-4.

Trailing the Woodpeckers 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Cubs 12th overall prospect Juan Cabada (2) launched a two-run blast to give the Birds a 2-1 lead.

The lead was short lived though as Fayetteville jumped ahead in the top of the fourth. Arturo Flores (16) hit a solo home run to tie the game, and then the Woodpeckers took a 3-2 lead on an RBI single from Waner Luciano.

The Woodpeckers added two more runs to their lead in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded, German Ramirez roped a two-run single to move the score to 5-2.

In the top of the sixth, Fayetteville put up three more runs, capped off by a two-run double from Flores to extend the score to 8-2.

Fayetteville tacked on three more runs in the top of the eighth. Carlos Cauro was walked and then moved to second on a single from Owen Nowak. One batter later, Aaron Piasecki ripped an RBI double to stretch the score to 9-2. Following a strikeout, Petey Soto Jr. laced a two-run single to extend the lead to 11-2.

Myrtle Beach struck back in the bottom of the eighth. Ivan Cespedes and Cabada singled to put runners on first and second. The next batter Alexis Hernandez smacked an RBI single to trim the score to 11-3.

The Woodpeckers tacked on one more run in the top of the ninth. With a runner on second base, Nowak hit an RBI single to move the score to 12-3.

Fayetteville started the scoring in the top of the second with a bases loaded walk drawn by Ramirez, which gave the Woodpeckers a 1-0 advantage.

RHP Jagger Beck (6-3, 3.01) received the win for the Woodpeckers. RHP Luis Mata (0-1, 4.50) was tagged with the loss for the Pelicans.

Myrtle Beach will continue their six-game series at Pelicans Ballpark against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (Single-A Astros) on Saturday, August 22. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM. RHP Riely Hunsaker (4-3, 5.07) get the start of the Pelicans. RHP Adrian Ardines (0-0, 7.04) gets the nod for the Woodpeckers.
