Sorrell’s Smashes Another Three-Run Homer, Pelicans Trap Fireflies 5-1

Camacho fans six batters, tying his career high in victory

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (September 3, 2026). – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (22-40, 49-77) took game three against the Columbia Fireflies (30-32, 64-64) 5-1 at Pelicans Ballpark on Thursday night. With the win, the Pelicans take control of the weeklong series against the Fireflies 2-1.

For the second consecutive night, Cubs 7th overall prospect Caden Sorrell (5) launched a three run home run. The blast gave the Birds a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third.

The Pelicans received a stellar performance from RHP Kevin Camacho (1-2, 8.56). Camacho tallied a career-high tying six punchouts over five innings of one-run ball.

Columbia responded in the top of the fourth when Connor Rasmussen (5) cranked a solo home run to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Myrtle Beach added to the lead in the bottom of the fifth. With Corey Nunez on third base, a walk on a wild pitch allowed Nunez to score which stretched the lead to 4-1.

The Pelicans scored once more in the bottom of the seventh. Jan Reyes scored from third base on another wild pitch to bring the score to 5-1.

Camacho received the win for the Pelicans. RHP Ryan McDonagh (2-5, 5.09) was tagged with the loss for the Fireflies.

Myrtle Beach will continue their final homestand of the 2026 season on Friday, September 4 against the Columbia Fireflies (Single-A Royals) at Pelicans Ballpark. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM. RHP Riely Hunsaker (4-4, 5.29) gets the start on the hill for the Pelicans. RHP Coleman Picard (2-2, 3.45) will get the nod on the mound for the Fireflies.
