Salaya Notches Two Punchouts In Debut

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (August 12, 2026). – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (16-28, 43-65) took game two of the series against the Hill City Howlers (16-28, 47-53) 3-1 on Wednesday night at Pelicans Ballpark. With the win, the Pelicans have tied the weeklong series 1-1.

LHP Victor Zarraga (3-3, 5.45) received the win and was brilliant in his return from the Complex League, tossing three shutout innings while not surrendering a hit and registering two strikeouts.

RHP Jubrayker Salaya (0.00, 0-0) also turned in a solid performance in his Pelicans debut, tossing three innings of one-run ball while posting two strikeouts and only giving up one hit.

Myrtle Beach started the scoring in the bottom of the first. Alexis Hernandez worked a walk and then scored on a double from Ethan Conrad that was coupled with a fielding error to give the Birds a 1-0 advantage.

The Pelicans added to their lead in the second inning. Eli Lovich reached on a walk and then moved to second on a single from Corey Nunez. A batter later Ivan Cespedes roped an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.

Hill City struck back in the top of the third. Ben Cleary lined a double and then moved to third on a fielding error. One batter later Pedro Dalmagro grounded out to second which scored Cleary to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Birds tacked on one more insurance run in the fourth. Jhoander Irigoyen reached second via a throwing error. After Lovich singled Irigoyen to third, Nunez grounded out which scored Irigoyen to stretch the Pelicans lead to 3-1.

RHP Will Hynes (0-2, 8.49) was tagged with the loss for the Howlers. RHP Julio Valdez received the save (S,1) for the Pelicans..

Myrtle Beach will continue their six-game homestand at Pelicans Ballpark against the Hill City Howlers (Single-A Guardians) on Thursday, August 13. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM. RHP Chase Meyer (0-0, 0.00) will start on the hill for the Pelicans. LHP Ryan Prager (3-3, 4.26) gets the nod for the Howlers.
