MEMPHIS, TN. – (August 4, 2026) Nashville suffered its largest loss of the 2026 season with a 13-2 defeat to the Memphis Redbirds at AutoZone Park Tuesday night. Luis Matos' carried the offensive effort with a four-hit night, and Drew Rom extended his streak without an earned allowed to 14.2 innings.
After Tyson Hardin and Brandt Thompson each got out of the first inning working around three combined hits, Hardin got into trouble in the bottom of the second inning, allowing seven runs. The Redbirds strung together five straight hits off the right-hander to start the inning, and each of the first eight batters reached to end the brief outing for the Brewers no. 8-rated prospect. Nolan Gorman's 3-run home run to right center field gave Memphis a 7-0 lead and the third extra-base hit allowed by Hardin before he was replaced by Lyon Richardson.
Memphis tacked on two more hits in the inning, including the second hit and RBI of the inning for Colton Ledbetter before the Sounds got out of the inning on the second outfield assist catching the Redbirds trying to push a single into a double. The Redbirds added three more runs in the bottom of the third as Richardson loaded the bases with three singles and issued back-to-back walks to make it 10-0.
Nashville however broke the scoring run as Luke Adams was hit by pitch with one out into the top of the fourth inning. Two at-bats later, Tyler Black got on base with an infield single, which advanced Adams to third base on a throwing error by Gorman. Bo Naylor recorded his first hit and RBI with the Sounds on a single into right field, scoring Adams. Will Childers and Rom each tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the fourth and the fifth frame. Rom came back for the sixth inning and worked around a one-out single, extending his streak of not allowing an earned run to 14.2 IP.
Memphis tacked on another run as Cameron Wagoner allowed a run on two singles and a double for the 11-1 lead. The Sounds struggled to put together any runs as they stranded six runners on base through the eighth inning. Ethan Murray replaced Wagoner in the bottom of the eighth inning and allowed a two-run homer to Thomas Saggese as Memphis pushed the lead to 13-1. Nashville was able to score another run on an RBI-single by Akil Baddoo in the top of the ninth, but the series opener went to the Redbirds for the 11-run win.
Along with Matos (4-for-5, 2B), Baddoo (2-for-5, RBI) and Tyler Black (2-for-4) produced multi-hit games for the Sounds who recorded 10 hits in the loss. Five Memphis hitters recorded multi-hit games at the plate, led by four-hit nights for Leo Bernal and Ramon Mendoza, who combined to go 8-for-9 with a double. Gorman and Saggese combined for six RBI, and all nine Memphis starters scored at least a run.
The Sounds and Redbirds continue this week's series on Wednesday evening. LHP Colton Gordon (6-5, 4.05 ERA) is scheduled to get the start for Nashville. First pitch is set for 6:45 p.m.

BREW DREW: Drew Rom extended his streak of allowing no earned runs to 14.2 consecutive innings (eight straight games) in the series opener Tuesday night against Memphis, as he allowed a hit and struck out four Redbirds batters. The 14.2 consecutive innings ties Garrett Stallings for the third longest streak on the team behind Craig Yoho (20.2 IP) and Brian Fitzpatrick (15.2 IP). The eight straight games are tied for the sixth-longest between earned runs for any Nashville pitcher this season. He has allowed nine hits with 24 strikeouts since the start of his streak on June 3. Tuesday was the third in his last five appearances with 4+ strikeouts in 2.0 IP or less, striking out 14 of the last 29 batters he has faced.
DON'T STEP ON MATOS: Luis Matos connected on four hits in Tuesday's series opener against the Redbirds, going 4-for-5 with a double. The four hits are a new season-high for Matos and his 14th career four-hit game since 2019. It was his 12th multi-hit game of the year, which ties Luke Adams for the second-most multi-hit games this season on the current active roster. It marked his second multi-hit game in the last three games he has started and is the first four-hit game Matos has put together since September 18 with Triple-A Sacramento during the 2025 season. The 24-year-old's career-high in hits sits at five when he did so with High-A Eugene on June 18 against Vancouver in 2022. Matos has recorded 191 career multi-hit games since 2019.
20 IS A LOT: The Sounds allowed a season-high of 20 hits in Tuesday's series opener against the Redbirds. The last time Nashville allowed 20+ hits was July 14, 2022, also against Memphis when they allowed 23 hits and 19 runs to the Redbirds. It marks the 15th time the Sounds have allowed 20 or more hits since 2005 and the Redbirds are responsible for four of the last six 20+ hit games against Nashville since 2019 with 24 hits on May 3, 2019, 20 hits on May 11, 2021, 23 hits on June 14, 2022, and the 20 hits on Tuesday night.
