Game Summary: The Oklahoma City Comets survived a late rally by the Las Vegas Aviators to pick up a fourth straight victory with a 6-5 win over the Aviators Saturday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Las Vegas (18-14/62-43) jumped in front with a two-out RBI single from Jared Dickey in the second inning. Oklahoma City (16-15/57-48) took the lead with two runs in the third inning, scoring on a RBI single from Zach Ehrhard followed by a Ryan Ward sacrifice fly. The Comets added on four more runs over the following two innings, highlighted by a two-run homer from Ryan Ward in the fifth inning to build a 6-1 advantage. The Aviators scored two runs with two outs in the sixth inning and later made it a one-run game in the seventh inning with a two-run homer from Max Muncy.
Of Note:
-Oklahoma City won a fourth straight game to secure a series victory against the Aviators as the Comets now lead the series, 4-1. The Comets have won four games in a row for the first time since July 8-12 vs. El Paso, which also led to their last series victory…The Comets improved to 9-2 in their last 11 games at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
-Ryan Ward finished 1-for-3 with a homer and three RBI, going deep for the second time this series. He is 6-for-21 with three extra-base hits and 10 RBI in five games this series.
-Zach Ehrhard went 2-for-4 with two RBI. He’s reached base in each of his last 11 games and collected a hit in 11 of his last 13 contests. During the 13-game stretch, Ehrhard is 20-for-50 with 10 RBI and nine walks.
-Alex Freeland reached base in all four of his plate appearances. The infielder tripled and drew three walks as he also scored twice and stole a pair of bases. Freeland is the fourth Comet with a season-high two steals in a game and the first since Tyler Fitzgerald May 9 vs. Salt Lake.
-Jackson Ferris tossed a season-high 97 pitches as the lefty fired 5.2 innings with three runs (two earned), six hits, two walks and six strikeouts for his first Triple-A victory. Ferris (1-5) retired a stretch of eight batters in a row from the third to sixth inning.
-With a home run from Ryan Ward, the Comets have gone deep in each of the last five games. Oklahoma City is up to eight homers during the stretch.
-Oklahoma City pitchers have reached double-digit strikeouts in back-to-back games, striking out 11 batters Saturday and 22 total over the last two games.
