Game Summary: The Oklahoma City Comets surged late, scoring five runs between the seventh and eighth innings to defeat the Salt Lake Bees, 6-3, Thursday night. The Comets (20-15/61-48) took the lead at 1-0 in the second inning with a Hyeseong Kim RBI triple, but Salt Lake (10-26/50-60) responded in the bottom half of the inning and tied the game. The Bees took the lead in the third inning on an RBI single from Gustavo Campero and plated another run in the fifth inning on a balk. OKC evened the score at three with a pair of runs in the seventh inning, including a game-tying hit by Alex Freeland. The Comets then jumped ahead with a three-run eighth inning, scoring on a single by Kim followed by a two-RBI double off the left field wall by Ryan Fitzgerald. Salt Lake brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the ninth inning when Seth Halvorsen struck out Niko Kavadas to end the game.
Of Note:
-The Comets have won eight straight games and are now riding their longest winning streak since winning 10 in a row May 9-19, 2023...Oklahoma City has won each of the first three games of a series for the first time since May 19-21 vs. Reno and has won the first three games of a road series for the first time since July 22-24 at Reno.
-The Comets have scored at least six runs in nine of the last 10 games, totaling 76 runs in that span...OKC has also put together an inning with three or more runs in each of the last 10 games, including the go-ahead three-run eighth inning Thursday.
-Alex Freeland went 2-for-3 with a RBI and two walks. He has collected a hit in each of his first six games since being optioned to OKC, going 8-for-21 with three extra-base hits, three RBI, eight runs, 10 walks and five stolen bases.
-Hyeseong Kim and Ryan Fitzgerald both finished with two hits and two RBI on the night, with each tallying the only two extra-base hits of the game…Fitzgerald has five hits the last two nights, including three for extra bases, to go along with five RBI.
-Zach Ehrhard drew a walk in the fifth inning to extend his on-base streak to 15 games. The outfielder is batting .351 (20-for-57) with 13 RBI, 14 walks and 14 runs scored during the stretch.
-James Tibbs III led off the ninth inning with a single. He has a hit in each of his last six games (11-for-22) and nine of his last 10 contests. During the 10-game stretch, Tibbs is 14-for-35 (.400) with four doubles, one triple, seven RBI and seven walks.
-The Comets pitching staff notched at least 15 strikeouts in game for the third time this season and first time since July 1 vs. Sugar Land (16 K)...The Comets reached double-digits for the third straight game, combining for 35 strikeouts...OKC has recorded at least 10 strikeouts in five of the last six games (65 K).
-Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Gavin Stone began a Major League Rehab Assignment, tossing 1.2 innings with one run, two hits and three strikeouts. He threw 33 pitches (22 strikes) across seven batters...Stone made his first appearance since Aug. 31, 2024 with the Dodgers at Arizona -- a span of 706 days. He has been on the Injured List all season with right shoulder inflammation.
