Game Summary: The Oklahoma City Comets needed an extra inning, but fought back to secure a 6-5 victory over the Salt Lake Bees in 10 innings Sunday night at The Ballpark at America First Square. Salt Lake (11-28/50-63) took a fast lead, scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning. Oklahoma City (22-16/63-49) got on the board soon after and took the lead with a two-run double from Griffin Lockwood-Powell in the second inning. The Comets extended their lead with a two-run opposite field home run from James Tibbs III in the third inning. Salt Lake received a homer of its own in the fourth inning with a solo shot from Jeimer Candelario. Both teams traded a run in the sixth inning with the Comets scoring on an RBI single from Lockwood-Powell. Salt Lake rallied in the ninth inning with a run-scoring single from Christian Moore and added another run on a fielding error by Noah Miller with two outs to tie the game at 5-5, sending the contest to extra innings. Oklahoma City came through in the 10th inning with a two-out RBI single from Alek Thomas before OKC pitcher Griff McGarry stranded a pair of Bees on base in the bottom half of the frame to secure the victory.
Of Note:
-Oklahoma City won five of six games during the road series at Salt Lake and has now won 10 of the last 11 games overall…The Comets have recorded five wins in back-to-back series and Sunday marked their fifth win in a road series for the first time since May 26-31 at Sugar Land…Sunday was the final meeting of the season between the Comets and Bees as Oklahoma City won eight of 11 games against Salt Lake this season.
-The Comets won their second extra-inning game of the season and first since a 5-4 win against Sacramento in 10 innings June 18…OKC last won a road game in extra innings July 2, 2025 in Las Vegas.
-The Comets have scored at least six runs in 12 of the last 13 games, totaling 106 runs in that span. All six of OKC’s runs Sunday came with two outs in the inning.
-James Tibbs III hit his 22nd homer of the year and first since June 27 at Reno as he finished 1-for-4 with two RBI and a walk. He has a hit in each of his last nine games (15-for-36) and in 12 of his last 13 contests. Tibbs’ nine-game hitting streak matches a career-high, last set Sept. 4-14, 2025 with Double-A Tulsa.
-Griffin Lockwood-Powell drove in three runs as part of a 2-for-5 night with a double as he extended his on-base streak to 10 games. During that span, Lockwood-Powell is 12-for-37 with seven doubles, six RBI and six walks.
-Alek Thomas collected his third straight multi-hit game, finishing 3-for-5 with a double and a RBI. He’s 9-for-16 with three doubles, one triple and nine RBI during those three contests and finished the series with 10 RBI.
-Zach Ehrhard went 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored to extend his on-base streak to 18 games, now the fourth-longest on-base streak by a Comet this season. The outfielder is batting .348 (24-for-69) with 14 RBI, 19 walks and 201 runs scored during the stretch.
-Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow made the second start of his Major League Rehab Assignment and first with Oklahoma City. Glasnow tossed 2.2 innings with one run, one hit and one walk allowed with two strikeouts. He threw 47 pitches (26 strikes)…The 2024 National League All-Star and two-time World Series Champion has been on the Injured List since May 8 while recovering from low back spasms.
