Game Summary: Emmet Sheehan pitched 5.2 scoreless innings to help lead the Oklahoma City Comets to a 6-0 shutout win against the Albuquerque Isotopes Wednesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Oklahoma City (23-17/64-50) got on the board with two outs in the first inning on a RBI single from James Tibbs III. The Comets added on in the second inning with a run-scoring double off the bat of Griffin Lockwood-Powell and later received an RBI groundout from Hyeseong Kim in the third inning. Both teams were held scoreless until the eighth inning when Ryan Ward doubled the Comets’ lead with a three-run home run out to left field. Albuquerque (21-20/60-56) was held to six hits as four Comets pitchers combined for the shutout win.
Of Note:
-Oklahoma City evened the series against the Isotopes at 1-1 with Wednesday’s win. The Comets have now won 11 of their last 13 games and have won six of their last seven home contests at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
-The Comets tossed their seventh shutout victory of the year and second of the month of August as they last held an opponent scoreless Aug. 2 vs. Las Vegas. OKC has recorded its most shutout wins since recording nine during the 2018 season and six of OKC’s shutouts this season have been pitched in Bricktown.
-Emmet Sheehan fired 5.2 scoreless innings with three hits and two walks allowed. He recorded eight strikeouts during his first start at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark this season and his second start with OKC this month since being optioned by the Los Angeles Dodgers Aug. 4. He became the third Comets pitcher to strike out a season-high eight batters, most recently done by Jackson Ferris July 3 vs. Sugar Land…Jerming Rosario and Ben Casparius each recorded holds in the OKC win before Nick Robertson closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning.
-Zach Ehrhard went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, a walk and two runs scored to extend his on-base streak to 20 games for the third-longest on-base streak by a Comet this season. The outfielder is batting .372 (29-for-78) with 16 RBI, 20 walks and 24 runs scored during the stretch.
-Noah Miller put together a 1-for-3 game with a double and a walk and is on a nine-game hitting streak, going 16-for-37 (.432). He matched a career-high nine-game hitting streak for the third time this year, most recently June 19-28, and for the fourth time overall.
-Ryan Ward hit his 15th homer of the season, going deep for the second time in a four-game span. He drove in at least three runs for the fourth time this month and is now up to 14 RBI during nine August contests.
-The Comets scored at least six runs for the eighth straight game and for the 14th time in the last 15 games. Oklahoma City also recorded 12 hits, reaching double-digits for the fifth straight game.
