Game Summary: Powered by four home runs, including a pair from James Tibbs III, the Oklahoma City Comets blasted off to a 9-3 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes Thursday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Albuquerque (21-21/60-57) jumped ahead in the second inning with a solo shot from Braxton Fulford. Oklahoma City (24-17/65-50) fired back by scoring seven straight runs from the second through fifth innings. During that stretch, the Comets launched three homers off the bats of Tibbs, Zach Ehrhard and Ryan Ward to build a 7-1 lead at the end of the fifth inning. Both teams exchanged two runs in the seventh inning with the Isotopes scoring on a Nic Kent RBI single and a run-scoring groundout before Tibbs hit his second homer of the game with a two-run blast to boost OKC to a 9-3 advantage.
Of Note:
-Oklahoma City has won back-to-back games to take a 2-1 series lead over Albuquerque…The Comets have now won 12 of their last 14 games and have won seven of their last eight home contests at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
-James Tibbs III went deep twice as part of a 2-for-3 night with four RBI, extending his season home run total to 24. He collected his fourth multi-homer game of the year, last doing so May 28 at Sugar Land. The multi-homer performance was Oklahoma City’s 15th of the season and first since Ryan Fitzgerald’s two-homer game July 29…Tibbs has reached base in each of his last 12 games, hitting 19-for-47 with seven extra-base hits and 15 RBI during that stretch.
-Zach Ehrhard homered and finished with two RBI to extend his on-base streak to 21 games, now tied for the second-longest on-base streak by a Comet this season. The outfielder is batting .361 (30-for-83) with 18 RBI, 20 walks and 25 runs scored during the stretch.
-With a two-run homer Thursday, Ryan Ward has now homered in consecutive games and has gone deep three times in the last five games. He’s driven in 16 runs across 10 August contests and is up to 23 RBI in his last 14 games…Ward is riding a six-game hitting streak, going 12-for-27 (.444) with three homers and nine RBI.
-Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Gavin Stone continued a Major League Rehab Assignment, tossing 3.0 innings with one run, one hit, one walk and five strikeouts. He threw 46 pitches (32 strikes), striking out the final four batters he faced...Across two starts with Oklahoma City, Stone has thrown 4.2 innings with two runs, three hits, one walk and eight strikeouts…Stone has been on the Injured List all season with right shoulder inflammation.
- The Comets hit four homers Thursday, going deep for the fourth straight game as they’ve left the yard nine times during that span. The four homers also tied the Comets’ season-high mark last accomplished July 29 against Las Vegas.
-Oklahoma City scored at least six runs for the ninth straight game and for the 15th time in the last 16 games.
-The Comets pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts, reaching double-figures for the second straight night.
