Oklahoma City Comets — 2

Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026 – Constellation Field – Sugar Land, Texas

Game Summary: Despite a late rally for the second straight night, the Oklahoma City Comets fell, 3-2, to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys Thursday at Constellation Field. Neither team collected a hit through four innings nor scored a run through five innings. Sugar Land (33-15/65-57) broke the scoreless tie with a three-run sixth inning. Pascanel Ferreras hit a RBI double, then with the bases loaded, Comets second baseman Alex Freeland committed a fielding error, allowing two runs to score. Just like Wednesday night, the Comets (27-20/68-53) did not score until they were down to their final out. Alek Thomas hit an inside-the-park home run off the center field fence to close the gap to 3-2 before OKC lost the game.

Of Note:

-The Comets have lost consecutive games for the first time a three-game losing streak July 25-28. In the 18 games between, OKC went 15-3…This is the first time in the last four series the Comets trail the series through the first three games.

-The Comets have combined for three runs and seven hits over the last two games. Both totals match season lows across any two-game stretch this season…OKC has lost both games even though they have allowed Sugar Land to score a total of only five runs on seven hits.

-Gavin Stone continued a Major League Rehab Assignment, tossing 3.0 hitless innings with five strikeouts. He retired nine of his 10 batters faced with the only batter reaching on a Comets’ fielding error. Stone threw 38 pitches (30 strikes)...Across three starts with Oklahoma City, Stone has thrown 7.2 innings with two runs, three hits, one walk and 13 strikeouts…Stone has been on the Injured List all season with right shoulder inflammation.

-Alek Thomas collected Oklahoma City’s third inside-the-park home run of the season. He joins Zach Ehrhard who accomplished the feat twice, including most recently July 8 vs. El Paso…Thomas has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, going 17-for-45 (.378) with five doubles, two triples, one homer and 13 RBI.

-Across the last eight games, Oklahoma City starting pitchers have tossed 38.1 innings, giving up three runs and 13 hits while striking out 58 batters. During the first three games of this series, Comets starters have allowed four hits and two runs across 14.1 innings while recording 20 strikeouts.

-Comets pitchers struck out 13 batters for the second straight night, recording at least 10 strikeouts for the fourth straight game and the seventh time in the last eight games for a total of 98 strikeouts.
