Game Summary: The Oklahoma City Comets suffered a third straight one-run loss in Sugar Land, falling, 4-3, in 10 innings Friday night at Constellation Field. Sugar Land (34-15/66-57) scored the opening run in the second inning. The Comets (27-21/68-54) went ahead in the fifth inning after an RBI triple from Noah Miller followed by an Alex Freeland RBI single. The Space Cowboys regained the lead at 3-2 in the sixth inning when César Salazar hit a two-run homer. James Tibbs III connected on a solo shot in the eighth inning to pull the Comets into a 3-3 tie. The Comets couldn’t score in the ninth inning after having the bases loaded with one out and then failed to score the placed runner at second base in the 10th inning. Trenton Brooks won the game for Sugar Land with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning when he hit a sharp ground ball deflected by Comets second baseman Hyeseong Kim for a RBI single.
Of Note:
-After going 15-3 between July 29-Aug. 18, the Comets have lost three straight games. All three defeats have been by one run...The Comets are now 2-5 in extra innings and 1-6 in games tied after eight innings.
-James Tibbs III finished a perfect 3-for-3 with a homer two walks. He is 7-for-14 with three home runs this series, and over 10 games at Constellation Field this season he is 16-for-38 (.421) with nine homers and 20 RBI…Tibbs has now hit 27 home runs this season.
-Comets pitchers struck out 11 batters despite not recording their first strikeout until the fifth inning. The Comets recorded at least 10 strikeouts for the fifth straight game (61 K) and the eighth time in the last nine games for a total of 109 strikeouts…OKC has matched its longest streak with double-digit strikeouts this season, previously doing so June 27-July 3.
-Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen continued a Major League Rehab Assignment and made his second appearance with Oklahoma City. Treinen tossed a scoreless fifth inning with two strikeouts. He threw nine pitches (seven strikes)…Across two appearances with Oklahoma City, Treinen pitched 1.2 innings with one hit, one walk and three strikeouts...Treinen has been on the Dodgers’ Injured List since June 20 due to right elbow inflammation.
-This marks the second time this season the Comets have gone three straight games scoring three or fewer runs, previously done July 21-23 at Sacramento.
