Game Summary: Ryan Fitzgerald crushed a walk-off single to deep center field to secure a 5-4 Oklahoma City Comets victory over the El Paso Chihuahuas in 10 innings Friday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Oklahoma City (31-24/72-57) got on the board with two runs in the fourth inning with a RBI single from James Tibbs III followed by a run-scoring triple off the bat of Ryan Ward. El Paso (18-37/53-77) made it a one-run ballgame in the sixth inning with a RBI single from Mason McCoy. The Chihuahuas were then held without a hit until the ninth inning with one out as they collected back-to-back homers from McCoy and Rodolfo Duran to take a 3-2 lead. After a pair of one-out singles from Fitzgerald and Noah Miller, the Comets tied the game with a two-out RBI single from Alex Freeland to force extra innings. El Paso brought in the automatic runner on a single from Carlos Rodriguez to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the 10th. Oklahoma City tied the game in the bottom of the frame on a single from Hyeseong Kim before Fitzgerald’s game-winning single.
Of Note:
-Oklahoma City picked up its second win of the series and second win in the last three games as El Paso now leads the seven-game series, 3-2…The Comets played in their fifth one-run game in the last six contests and eighth in the last 10 games. Oklahoma City had lost each of the three prior one-run games this series.
-The Comets improved their extra-innings record to 4-6 on the season. Oklahoma City played in its fifth extra-inning contest this month, fourth in the last eight games and second of the series after losing an eight-inning battle during game one of Wednesday’s doubleheader.
-Oklahoma City secured its fourth walk-off victory of the season and first since Ryan Ward’s walk-off single July 3 vs. Sugar Land.
-Ryan Fitzgerald connected on the walk-off single, finishing 2-for-5 with a RBI. He has hit safely in each of the first five games of the series, batting .500 (9-for-18) with three extra-base hits and five RBI.
-Jackson Ferris put together Oklahoma City’s longest start of the season, firing 7.0 innings with one run, seven hits, three walks and eight strikeouts in a no decision. It marked Oklahoma City’s longest outing since Justin Wrobleski matched the effort May 10, 2025 vs. Albuquerque. Ferris threw at least seven innings for the first time since July 18, 2025 with Double-A Tulsa vs. NW Arkansas. He also finished with 100 pitches, reaching triple-digits for the fourth time in his career.
-Hyeseong Kim tied the game in the 10th inning with a RBI single to extend to a five-game hitting streak. Over the five games, Kim is 9-for-18 (.500) with a triple, two RBI and two stolen bases.
-Alex Freeland came through with a game-tying single in the ninth inning to extend his on-base streak to eight games. He’s 10-for-31 with three doubles and four RBI during the stretch. Freeland matched his season-best on-base streak with Oklahoma City, last accomplished July 30-Aug. 8.
-Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith continued his Major League Rehab Assignment and made his third appearance of the series with the Comets. He went 0-for-3 at the plate and threw out 1-of-2 baserunners across seven innings at catcher…He was placed on the Dodgers’ Injured List June 11 with neck inflammation and was transferred to the 60-day IL July 21.
