Game Summary: Matt Gorski collected the Oklahoma City Comets’ second walk-off hit in three days as the Comets defeated the El Paso Chihuahuas, 2-1, Sunday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. El Paso (18-39/53-79) scored the first run of the game with two outs in the first inning on a broken-bat RBI single from Ethan Salas. Oklahoma City (33-24/74-57) evened the game in the seventh inning as Gorski picked up a RBI single. El Paso was held without a hit after the third inning as Comets pitchers retired 19 of the last 22 batters faced. Gorski came through for the Comets again in the ninth inning with a game-winning single down the first base line to deliver Oklahoma City’s 2-1 win.
Of Note:
-Oklahoma City won the final three games of the series, all by one run, to secure a 4-3 series victory against El Paso. The Comets have now gone five straight series without a defeat…OKC played in its seventh one-run game in the last eight contests and 10th in the last 12 games.
-Matt Gorski drove in both of Oklahoma City’s runs, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate. The multi-hit game was Gorski’s first since going 2-for-3 Aug. 13 against Albuquerque and the multi-RBI outing was his first since July 25 in Sacramento when he had four RBI.
-Oklahoma City has five walk-off wins this season and two in the last three games after Ryan Fitzgerald’s game-ending single Friday. The Comets collected multiple walk-off wins in the same series for the first time since June 17-22, 2025 vs. Round Rock…The Comets now have 12 last at-bat wins this season, including four in the last eight games.
-Hyeseong Kim went 2-for-3 with a walk to extend to a season-high seven-game hitting streak. Over the seven games, Kim is 12-for-25 (.480) with a triple, two RBI and two stolen bases.
-Ryan Fitzgerald collected his 150th hit of the season, becoming the eighth player in Oklahoma City’s Bricktown-era to reach the milestone in a single season…He finished the game 1-for-3 with a double, walk and run scored as he hit safely in all seven games of the series, batting .458 (11-for-24) with four extra-base hits and five RBI.
-Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith continued his Major League Rehab Assignment and made his fifth appearance of the series with the Comets. He went 1-for-3 at the plate while playing seven innings at catcher…He was placed on the Dodgers’ Injured List June 11 with neck inflammation and was transferred to the 60-day IL July 21.
-The Comets allowed a combined 21 runs during the seven-game series against El Paso. Oklahoma City has now surrendered four of fewer runs in 16 of the last 18 games. Since Aug. 12, the Comets have allowed a total of 41 runs (32 ER).
-Oklahoma City finished the month of August with a Triple-A best 18-9 record. The Comets also picked up their 40th win at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark this season, reaching the total for the first time since 2023.
