Game Summary: The Oklahoma City Comets scored five runs in the fifth inning and the bullpen combined for 5.2 scoreless innings during a 7-4 victory over the Round Rock Express Tuesday night at Dell Diamond. Round Rock (33-25/64-69) opened the game with a two-run first inning. The Comets (34-24/75-57) cut the deficit in half with a 435-foot blast from Matt Gorski in the second inning. The Express added two more runs in the third inning to extend their lead to 4-1. OKC pieced together a five-run fifth inning, scoring each of the final four runs with two outs. Ryan Fitzgerald tied the game with a two-run double before Hyeseong Kim hit a go-ahead RBI double. Eliezer Alfonzo tallied a RBI single to finish the rally and put the Comets ahead, 6-4. Fitzgerald crushed a solo homer in the ninth inning to pad the lead. The OKC pitching staff retired 19 of the final 20 Express batters and allowed one hit after the third inning.
Of Note:
-The Comets have won four straight games and five of their last six games…At 75-57 overall, the Comets are a season-best 18 games above .500.
-The Comets have won their fifth straight game at Dell Diamond and have taken six of seven games at the venue this season.
-With a loss by first-place Sugar Land Tuesday, Oklahoma City is now 2.0 games behind the Space Cowboys with 17 games remaining in the PCL second half. The Comets took sole possession of second place with their win over the Express.
-Hyeseong Kim went 3-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to eight games. During the streak, Kim is 15-for-30 (.500) with a triple, double, three RBI and five multi-hit games.
-Ryan Fitzgerald finished 2-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBI to continue an eight-game hitting streak. He’s 13-for-29 (.448) with six extra-base hits and eight RBI during the streak...With 152 hits this season, Fitzgerald is now tied with Andre Lipcius (2024) for sixth in Bricktown-era single-season history.
-With five runs in the fifth inning, the Comets notched their highest-scoring inning since Aug. 8 at Salt Lake…OKC also had its highest-scoring game since Aug. 13 vs. Albuquerque and most hits in a game since Aug. 11 vs. Albuquerque. The Comets’ six extra base hits were also their most since Aug. 13…The six hits in the fifth inning were the team’s most in a single inning since May 21 vs. Reno (seven).
-Kris Bubic began a Major League Rehab Assignment and tossed a scoreless fifth inning with two strikeouts. He threw 17 pitches (10 strikes)...The 2025 American League All-Star made his Dodgers organization debut after being acquired via trade with Kansas City Aug. 3.
-Oklahoma City pitchers struck out 14 batters, collecting their most since a 16-strikeout game Aug. 23 at Sugar Land. The Comets have reached double digits in three of the last four games, with 45 strikeouts in that span.
