Game Summary: The Oklahoma City Comets secured their 12th straight victory to match a Bricktown-era record in an 8-0 win against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys Thursday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Oklahoma City (42-24/83-57) scored three runs in the first inning for the second straight game, collecting a RBI double from James Tibbs III followed by a two-run blast off the bat of Ryan Ward. The Comets added on in the second inning with a RBI single off the left field wall from Zach Ehrhard. Oklahoma City put together further insurance in the seventh inning with a RBI single off the bat of Alek Thomas and later followed in the eighth with a three-run homer from Chadwick Tromp down the left field line. Sugar Land (39-27/71-69) was held to six hits as the Comets won their third straight game of the series.
Of Note:
-The Comets extended their winning streak to a season-best 12 games to match Oklahoma City’s longest winning streak in the Bricktown era from July 26-Aug. 6, 2013. The current 12-game streak is the longest in Triple-A this season and is tied with Single-A Charleston (TB) for the fourth-longest winning streak across the full-season Minors in 2026.
-Oklahoma City extended its PCL second half lead and is now 3.0 games ahead of second-place Sugar Land in the standings with nine games remaining in the regular season…The Comets are now a season-best 26 games above .500 for the first time since 2023.
-The Comets recorded their 12th shutout victory of the season and first since Aug. 26 vs. El Paso in the second game of a doubleheader…OKC’s 12 shutouts in 2026 are the most by the team in a single season since matching the total in 2016 and the most by any Pacific Coast League team since Round Rock also recorded 12 during the 2019 season.
-Landon Knack fired 5.0 scoreless innings with two hits, two walks and four strikeouts. He made his 48th career start during his Oklahoma City career, giving him sole possession of fourth in the Bricktown era.
-Alek Thomas went 1-for-4 with a RBI and two stolen bases to extend his hitting streak to a season-best 10 games. He’s 11-for-41 (.268) with six extra-base hits and nine RBI during the streak. It’s the Comets’ sixth double-digit hitting streak of the season.
-Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Edwin Díaz continued a Major League Rehab Assignment making his third appearance with Oklahoma City and second in as many days. He tossed a scoreless seventh inning with one hit, one walk and one strikeout while throwing 18 pitches (10 strikes). The three-time All-Star and three-time Reliever of the Year is recovering from neck inflammation.
-Kris Bubic also appeared in back-to-back days as he continued his Major League Rehab Assignment making his fifth appearance with Oklahoma City. He fired a scoreless eighth inning with one hit and two strikeouts while throwing 14 pitches (11 strikes). Bubic has not allowed a run in 4.1 innings with Oklahoma City while striking out six batters during that stretch. The 2025 American League All-Star is recovering from left elbow soreness.
-Oklahoma City has scored 23 runs over the first three games this week. The Comets have scored their most runs in a three-game span since driving in 26 runs Aug. 8-11. Oklahoma City scored at least eight runs or more in consecutive games for the first time since Aug. 7-8 at Salt Lake.
