Game Summary: The Oklahoma City Comets scored three early runs and held on for a 14th straight win with a 3-2 victory over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys Saturday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Oklahoma City (44-24/85-57) put together a three-run third inning, collecting a pair of two-out, two-strike hits on a single from Zach Ehrhard followed by a two-run blast from Alek Thomas. Sugar Land (39-29/71-71) also managed to come through with two outs in the fifth inning on a two-run single from Pascanel Ferreras. The Space Cowboys’ best chance to even the game was in the ninth inning with Collin Price at third base and two outs before Garrett McDaniels forced a game-ending groundout to secure the Oklahoma City win.
Of Note:
-The Comets extended their Bricktown-era record winning streak to 14 games. The winning streak is the second-longest across the Minors in 2026, just one game behind Single-A Hickory’s season-ending 15-game win streak…OKC reached 85 wins for the third time in the Bricktown-era, last accomplished during a franchise-record 90 victories in 2023. The Comets are now a season-best 28 games above .500.
-With wins in each of the first five games of the series against Sugar Land, Oklahoma City has extended its lead in the PCL second half standings and is now 5.0 games ahead of second-place Sugar Land with seven games remaining in the regular season. The Comets can clinch the PCL second half title with a victory Sunday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
-Oklahoma City has won eight straight games at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, marking its longest home winning streak since 2018. The Comets are 45-28 overall at home this season which includes a 25-10 mark in the second half.
-Alek Thomas went 1-for-2 with a homer, two RBI and a walk to extend his hitting streak to a season-best 12 games. He’s 13-for-47 (.277) with seven extra-base hits and 11 RBI during the streak. His hitting streak is tied for Oklahoma City’s second-longest of the season and is one game shy of Tyler Fitzgerald’s season-best 13-game hitting streak May 8-26.
-Zach Ehrhard went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored. Across his last five games, Ehrhard is 11-for-20 with three extra-base hits and six RBI. The outfielder is now up to 111 runs scored this season and is two away from matching Ryan Ward’s record of 113 from 2025.
-Christian Romero matched a season-high seven strikeouts as he fired 5.0 innings with two runs, three hits and two walks. The right-hander last matched the strikeout total May 20 vs. Reno. Romero earned his 10th victory of the year, joining Cole Irvin as the first Oklahoma City teammates with double-digit wins in the same season since Justin Masterson and Wilmer Font in 2017.
-Oklahoma City struck out 14 batters for the second time this week, last done Sept. 9. The Comets have recorded 11 games this season with 14 or more strikeouts and lead the league with 1,314 K’s this season.
-The start of Saturday’s game had a delay of 1 hour, 24 minutes due to inclement weather in the area.
