Game Summary: The Oklahoma City Comets wrapped up the home portion of their 2026 schedule with a 5-0 loss to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys Sunday afternoon at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Both teams remained scoreless through five innings before Sugar Land broke through with a five-run sixth inning against the rehabbing Edwin Díaz. The Space Cowboys (40-29/72-71) scored on singles from Lucas Spence and Pascanel Ferreras sandwiched by a walk and hit by pitch both with the bases loaded. Oklahoma City (44-25/85-58) was held to four hits in the series finale.
Of Note:
-The Comets’ franchise-best 14-game winning streak during the Bricktown era came to an end with the loss. The streak was the second-longest across the Minors in 2026, one game shy of Single-A Hickory’s season-ending 15-game winning streak.
-Oklahoma City’s eight-game home winning streak also came to an end, which was the team’s longest since 2018. The Comets finished the season with a 45-29 record at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, recording the most home wins for the team since going 45-30 in Bricktown in 2022.
-Oklahoma City missed an opportunity to clinch the PCL second half title with the defeat. The Comets now lead Sugar Land by 4.0 games in the PCL second half standings with six games remaining in the regular season. OKC’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot remains at two.
-The Comets were shut out for the second time this season and first time since July 25 at Sacramento. Oklahoma City was shut out at home for the first time since May 26, 2024 vs. Reno — a streak of 199 consecutive games.
-Ryan Fitzgerald went 2-for-3 with a walk, increasing his Triple-A-leading season hit total to 164. With two hits Sunday, he matched Ryan Ward’s hit total from last season, which set the Bricktown-era single season record.
-Cole Irvin tossed 4.2 scoreless innings with four hits, two walks and four strikeouts in a no decision. He lowered his ERA to a PCL-leading 3.09 across 27 starts. Irvin’s start total matches Matt Perisho (1999) for the Bricktown-era single-season record.
-Kris Bubic continued his Major League Rehab Assignment making his sixth appearance with Oklahoma City. He fired 1.1 scoreless innings with one hit, one walk and three strikeouts while throwing 19 pitches (13 strikes). Bubic has not allowed a run in 5.2 innings with Oklahoma City while striking out nine batters during that stretch. The 2025 American League All-Star is recovering from left elbow soreness.
-Alek Thomas went 0-for-4 to end a season-best 12-game hitting streak. He went 13-for-47 (.277) with seven extra-base hits and 11 RBI during the streak. His hitting streak is tied for Oklahoma City’s second-longest of the season.
