Game Summary: The Oklahoma City Comets claimed the 2026 Pacific Coast League Championship with a 5-2 win in a decisive Game 3 against the Las Vegas Aviators Thursday night at Las Vegas Ballpark. Oklahoma City collected the first run of the game on a RBI double from Ryan Fitzgerald in the second inning. The Comets put up two more runs in the third inning with a run-scoring single from Mike Sirota followed by an Alek Thomas sacrifice fly. Las Vegas loaded the bases in the sixth inning with two outs before Kyle Hurt forced an inning-ending groundout to maintain the Comets’ three-run lead. Oklahoma City increased its lead in the eighth inning, plating a pair of runs on two-out doubles from Zach Ehrhard and Josue De Paula. The Aviators ended the shutout bid in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run homer from Brayan Buelvas but OKC pitchers Seth Halvorsen and Paul Gervase retired the next six Aviators batters to close out the win.
Of Note:
-The Comets defeated the Aviators, 2-1, in the best-of-three PCL Championship Series. The championship is Oklahoma City’s sixth Triple-A title and second in four years after winning the title in 2023. This is Oklahoma City’s second championship during the Bricktown era (since 1998). Oklahoma City went on to win a playoff series after dropping the opening game for the first time since the 2016 American Conference First Round vs. Nashville.
-OKC is now 3-2 in winner-take-all playoff games, including 2-1 on the road. The victory was the team’s first in a winner-take-all game since Game 5 of the 2016 American Conference First Round at Nashville.
-After allowing 13 runs in Game 1 of the series, Oklahoma City allowed two runs in each of the final games to clinch the title.
-Zach Ehrhard went 2-for-5 with two doubles, a RBI and two runs scored. He’s collected a hit in each of his last 15 games and is 26-for-59 with 11 extra-base hits and 12 RBI during the stretch. During the three-game series, Ehrhard finished 6-for-12 with three doubles, one homer and five RBI.
-Los Angeles Dodgers No. 1 prospect Josue De Paula collected the first two hits of his Triple-A career. The outfielder finished 2-for-5 with a double and RBI.
-Mike Sirota reached base four times, finishing 1-for-2 with a RBI and three walks. The Dodgers’ No. 2 prospect drove in his first Triple-A run in the third inning.
-Ryan Fitzgerald increased his series RBI total to five following a 2-for-5 night with a double. His two-bagger was his 36th overall on the year.
-Oklahoma City will now look to claim the Triple-A National Championship against the International League-winning Rochester Red Wings (WSH). OKC will make its second appearance in the Triple-A National Championship after falling, 7-6, against Norfolk in 2023. Rochester defeated Memphis in three games, in the International League Championship Series taking the deciding contest, 3-2, Thursday. Rochester and Oklahoma City finished with the two best records in Triple-A baseball this season.
