OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Comets have announced a new line of team merchandise in collaboration with Official League and longtime Oklahoma City band The Flaming Lips.
The Comets and The Flaming Lips are the latest addition to Official League’s “Local Legends” series. An array of hats, jackets and shirts can now be purchased at the Team Store at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, through the Comets’ online store or through Official League’s website.
“Whenever we have a chance team up with another pillar of our community, we jump at it,” said Comets General Manager Kyle Daugherty. “Our fans are going to love the new merchandise brought to life by Official League and inspired by some of Oklahoma City’s favorite sons, The Flaming Lips.”
Founded over 40 years ago in Oklahoma City, The Flaming Lips are known for their psychedelic and alternative sound. The band, led by frontman Wayne Coyne, has released 16 studio albums and continues to tour across the world, putting on incredibly unique live immersive performances.
Additionally, since 2007 the alley behind left field at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark has been officially known as Flaming Lips Alley.
Based in Portland, Ore., Official League’s mission “stemmed from a vision to create a lifestyle brand that offers high-quality, artistically designed apparel connecting fans to their favorite teams and communities,” per the company’s website. Other collaborations between Minor League Baseball teams and performing artists as part of the “Local Legends” series includes Kane Brown and the Chattanooga Lookouts, Brantley Gilbert and the Gwinnett Stripers and Kameron Marlowe and the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers.
The Comets are in the midst of their final home series of the season, with games scheduled tonight through Sunday. For more information or to purchase tickets, please call 405-218-2150 or visit okccomets.com.
