INDIANAPOLIS – The Omaha Storm Chasers (31-35/64-76) fell 5-1 to the Indianapolis Indians (39-29/70-73) on Saturday night. Alejo Lopez went 2-for-3 and the bullpen combined for 4.0 scoreless innings of relief, but it wasn’t enough for Omaha to make a comeback.
The Indians scored first on a solo home run off Storm Chasers starter Lucas Braun (3-3) to open the bottom of the 2nd inning and take a 1-0 lead.
Indianapolis added to its lead with an RBI double off Braun in the bottom of the 3rd inning, then pushed across 3 more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning with an RBI double and 2-run home run against Omaha’s starter to extend the lead to 5-0.
Omaha turned to Hunter Owen out of the bullpen to begin the bottom of the 5th inning and he worked around a one-out double for a scoreless frame.
The Storm Chasers finally got on the board in the top of the 6th inning when Brett Squires hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-1.
Owen returned for the bottom of the 6th inning and recorded the first two outs before Lucas Erceg came on to finish the inning and strand an inherited runner from Owen.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, Erceg retired all three batters he faced, and Matt Moore followed with a scoreless bottom of the 8th inning to keep the game 5-1.
Omaha then went down in order in the top of the 9th inning, finishing the 4-run loss.
The Storm Chasers have one more game in Indianapolis against the Indians on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 12:35 P.M. CT and Ryan Ramsey is scheduled to start for Omaha.
