I-80 RIVALRY RETURNS
For the first time this season, the Storm Chasers will host the I-Cubs for their closest geographical rivalry. Omaha and Iowa have played 15+ games every season since the turn of the 21st century, but it’s the first time the Storm Chasers have hosted only one series in the Omaha metro in a season. Since 2000, the Storm Chasers have won the season series 8 times, split 4 times and lost 13 times. With Iowa leading this year’s season series 6 games to 5, Omaha will need to win 4 of the 6 games this week to clinch the season series for the 3rd time since 2013.
REMEMBER ME?
A couple of current Storm Chasers share some history with Iowa, even playing for the Cubs earlier this year. Both Luke Little and Vince Velasquez pitched for Iowa this season, with Velasquez joining the Storm Chasers on July 10 and Little joining the squad on August 6. Little pitched in 17 games out of the bullpen for Iowa this season along with 55 games the previous 3 years (2023-25), combining to go 9-1 with a 3.45 ERA (39 ER in 101.2 IP) and 128 strikeouts for the I-Cubs in his career. Velasquez only arrived to Des Moines earlier this year, but pitched to a 2-1 record with a 6.15 ERA (23 ER in 33.2 IP) in 10 games (8 starts) with Iowa before joining Omaha.
