COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Omaha Storm Chasers (23-20/56-61) fell 7-2 to the Columbus Clippers (22-21/63-54) on Saturday night. The Storm Chasers’ second straight loss came despite Luca Tresh and Abraham Toro producing 2-hit nights.
Omaha starter Ryan Ramsey (5-7) struck out the side with a perfect bottom of the 1st inning and worked a scoreless bottom of the 2nd inning, then Jack Pineda gave the Storm Chasers a 1-0 lead on an RBI double in the top of the 3rd inning.
Ramsey came back with a scoreless bottom of the 3rd inning, but surrendered an RBI double, bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and bases-loaded walk to put Columbus ahead 3-1 in the bottom of the 4th inning. Scott Alexander relieved Ramsey in the frame, coming in with the bases loaded and nobody out, but a passed ball and RBI groundout brought home 2 more runs to make it a 5-1 game.
The Storm Chasers turned back to Alexander for the bottom of the 5th inning, but an RBI double extended the Clippers’ lead to 6-1.
Matt Moore took over for Alexander to begin the bottom of the 6th inning and allowed a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 7-1 before Scott Barlow headed to the mound with a runner on first and two outs and worked out of the frame.
Omaha cut the deficit to 7-2 on Abraham Toro’s RBI double in the top of the 7th, then Barlow fired a scoreless bottom of the 7th inning and Ethan Bosacker kept Columbus from scoring in the 8th inning.
The Storm Chasers couldn’t get the offense going in the top of the 9th inning, going down in order to finish off Omaha’s 5-run loss.
The Clippers will host the Storm Chasers for the series finale on Sunday afternoon, and first pitch is scheduled for 12:05 P.M. CT.
