PAPILLION, NEB. – Peyton Wilson hit 2 home runs, but the Omaha Storm Chasers (23-23/56-64) lost 13-3 to the Rochester Red Wings (29-19/74-47) on Thursday night. Wilson went 3-for-4 with the first multi-homer game in his Triple-A career, but Omaha managed one additional tally in the 10-run loss.
The Red Wings scored first, plating four runs in the top of the 2nd inning off Omaha starter Henry Williams (4-4), 2 of which were unearned. Williams worked a scoreless top of the 3rd inning, then Wilson hit the first of his home runs in the bottom half, a solo shot to cut the deficit to 4-1.
The Storm Chasers scored another run in the bottom of the 4th inning on a Josh Rojas RBI groundout, but Rochester responded with an RBI off Williams in the top of the 5th inning to bring the score to 5-2.
Wilson led off the bottom of the 5th inning with his second home run of the game, cutting the deficit to 5-3.
Williams exited the game in the top of the 6th inning after a two-out error extended the inning, and Luke Little took over from there, but allowed the inherited runner to score on an RBI single to make it a 6-3 game. Williams finished the game with 5.2 innings, charged with 6 runs (3 earned) while he tied a season-high with 7 strikeouts.
Little returned for the top of the 7th inning, but left the game with a runner on first and one out. Easton McGee relieved Little and allowed the inherited runner to score on a 2-run home run, then surrendered another 2-run home run to extend Rochester’s advantage to 10-3 before working out of the frame.
McGee gave up a solo home run in the top of the 8th inning to make it an 11-3 game, but Ethan Bosacker was tagged for a 2-run home run in the top of the 9th inning to extend the gap to 13-3.
In the bottom of the 9th inning, the Red Wings struck out the side to finish off the game, with Omaha dropping its 5th contest in a row.
The Storm Chasers will host the Red Wings again on Friday night at Werner Park. First pitch is set for 6:35 P.M. CT and Ryan Ramsey is scheduled to start for Omaha.
