ONTARIO, Calif. – Ontario Tower Buzzers’ first baseman Easton Shelton took home California League’s Most Valuable Player, Minor League Baseball announced Tuesday. Shelton was also named to Cal League’s All-Star team alongside Ontario’s Kellon Lindsey as well as Los Angeles Dodger prospects Jaron Elkins and Mairo Martinus.
The 20-year-old first baseman dominated this year's Cal League after an exceptional season where he swung a .297 batting average, posted an on-base percentage of .403 and a .644 slugging percentage. Shelton captured headlines this year with his record setting 37 home runs, surpassing Ryan Ward’s previous Dodger prospect record of 36, and 112 runs batted in, shattering Cody Bellinger’s 103 RBI Dodger prospect record.
Lindsey, who played second base for Ontario, had a .288 AVG, .421 and .507 SLG while launching 11 HR and 26 RBI. The second baseman was the Dodgers’ first round pick in 2024 and is currently the 13th ranked prospect in the organization.
Elkins’ speed and arm strength found him success in Ontario. The outfielder posted a .339 AVG, .421 OBP and 1.005 SLG along with 13 HR, 56 RBI and 34 stolen bases. The 18th prospect in the Dodgers’ organization started his season in Ontario and was promoted to High-A affiliate, Great Lakes Loons, on July 28th.
Martinus ability to play any position on the field landed him on this year’s Cal League All-Star team at the utility position. Martinus posted a .317 AVG, .359 OBP, .537 SLG as well as 15 HR and 64 RBI. The utility athlete continued to find success at the High-A level after being promoted to Great Lakes on August 4th.
