JUPITER, FL – The Palm Beach Cardinals (20-20; 53-53), under their alternate identity “Palm Beach Frozen Iguanas,” picked up their sixth shutout win of the season with a win over the Jupiter Hammerheads (16-24; 53-53) by a final score of 2-0 on Saturday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Jan Cabrera made his Single-A debut for Palm Beach and tossed 2 2/3 shutout innings, during which he allowed four hits, one walk, and struck out six Hammerheads hitters. Cabrera departed the game with runners at second and third base in the top of the third inning and Dallis Moran came in and retired the last out. Moran finished his outing with 1 1/3 scoreless innings to keep the game scoreless after four innings.
Palm Beach did not have an answer against Jupiter starting pitcher Dameivi Tineo, who tossed five scoreless frames and only surrendered two hits while striking out seven batters.
In the top of the fifth inning, Jaden Alba made his professional debut on the mound for Palm Beach and tossed 2 1/3 shutout innings with three strikeouts. Yadiel Batista (W, 5-3) followed with 1 2/3 scoreless innings and exited the top of the eighth inning with the game still tied 0-0.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Palm Beach finally broke the scoreless tie. Trevor Haskins blasted a solo home run to left field on the first pitch he saw against Jupiter’s Ian Medina (L, 3-2). With one out, Yairo Padilla drew a walk, stole second base, advanced to third base on an error and scored on Dee Kennedy’s first professional hit to give Palm Beach a 2-0 lead.
Brian Garmon (SV, 1) pitched the top of the ninth inning and picked up his first professional save in a 2-1 Frozen Iguanas win.
