JUPITER, FL – The Palm Beach Cardinals (21-20; 54-53) beat the Jupiter Hammerheads (16-25; 53-54) on Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in the final matchup of the regular season of the “Duel of the Dean.” Jupiter wins the season series 13-11.
Early in the contest, it was a pitchers’ duel between Palm Beach starting pitcher Keiverson Ramirez and Jupiter starting pitcher Jonas Uzcategui. Both starting pitchers kept the offenses off the board through the first four innings.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Hammerheads got on the scoreboard first. With one out, Luis Cova hit a single to left field. Josh Hogue followed Cova with an RBI double to right-center field to give the Hammerheads the lead. The next batter, Nixon Chirinos, reached on an infield single but a throwing error by Miguel Hernandez allowed Hogue to score and Jupiter took a 2-0 lead.
The Cardinals had no answers against Uzcategui, who recorded career-highs with five scoreless innings and six strikeouts. Justin Militello tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen with five strikeouts to keep the game close.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cardinals finally responded on offense. With one out against Jupiter relief pitcher Hamlet Garcia (BS, 1), Ryan Mitchell drew a walk and Yairo Padilla smacked a double down the right field line to put runners at second and third base. A wild pitch allowed Mitchell to score from third base to put Palm Beach on the scoreboard. Alexander Frias tied the game on a sacrifice fly to center field for his first RBI as a member of the Cardinals organization. After six innings, the game was tied 2-2.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Palm Beach took the lead against Jupiter relief pitcher Janero Miller (L, 1-1). With the bases loaded and nobody out, Sebastian Dos Santos hit a two-RBI single to centerfield to give the Cardinals their first lead. Two more runs scored when Gabe Camacho was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and JP Cabrera reached on catcher’s interference. The scoring was capped when Mitchell hit a two-RBI single to center field to put the Cardinals ahead 8-2. In total, 10 Cardinals came to the plate and six runs scored for Palm Beach in the frame.
Nathan Shinn came in for the top of the ninth inning and allowed back-to-back home runs to Luis Arana and Luis Cova to start the frame. With one out and a runner at first base, Kozeal hit a double to right field but Frias cut down a run at home plate for his third Single-A outfield assist of the year and first outfield assist with the Cardinals. Shinn finished off the inning and secured an 8-4 win for the Cardinals to end the series on Sunday afternoon.
The Palm Beach Cardinals will visit the Daytona Tortugas beginning on Tuesday, August 11 to complete seven games in six days before returning to Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium to host the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels on Tuesday, August 18 to start a six-game homestand.
