
JUPITER, FL – The Palm Beach Cardinals (24-25; 57-58) walked off the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (25-23; 62-51) by a final score of 8-7 on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Matthew Miura delivered the game-winning, two-RBI single down the right field line as part of a three-run ninth inning to complete the comeback victory.
Fort Myers scored first in the top of the second inning against Andrew Dutkanych IV. After Yovanny Duran led off the frame with a walk, advanced to second base on a groundout, and stole third base, Aiden Teel sent Duran home with a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Mussels a 1-0 lead.
The Mighty Mussels extended their lead in the top of the fourth inning when Carson Tinney hit a solo home run to left field. One batter later, Dutkanych IV had to exit the game due to an apparent injury and Justin Militello came in to pitch in relief for Palm Beach. With the bases loaded and one out, Isaiah Lane hit a two-RBI double to left field. Hideki Prather followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to give Fort Myers a 5-0 lead.
Palm Beach had no answers on offense against Fort Myers starting pitcher Eric Hammond and relief pitcher Brian Strange who combined to throw four scoreless innings. But in the bottom of the fifth, the Cardinals finally got on the scoreboard. With one out, Trevor Condon, the St. Louis Cardinals’ first-round draft pick this year, made his professional debut and reached on a ground-rule double for his first professional hit. Ryan Mitchell followed Condon with an RBI single to right field to drive in the first run for Palm Beach. Later in the inning, Palm Beach drew back-to-back walks from Sebastian Dos Santos and Owen Henne. With two outs and the bases still loaded, Jayden Lobliner reached first base on an error which allowed two runs to score which tied the game at 5-5 after five innings. In total, 10 batters came to the plate and the Cardinals only had two hits while drawing four walks.
Branneli Franco entered the game in long relief in the top of the fifth inning for Palm Beach and tossed four shutout innings and struck out four Mussels in his home debut.
In the top of the ninth inning, the first two Fort Myers hitters reached base against Brian Garmon II (W, 1-1). Vaughn Lackey hit a two-RBI single back up the middle to give the Mighty Mussels a 7-5 lead.
Brent Francisco pitched clean seventh and eighth innings for Fort Myers. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Adam Falinski (L, 2-1, BS, 1) entered the game for the Mighty Mussels. Dos Santos was hit by a pitch to start the frame and Henne hit a single to left field. With runners at second and third base, Lobliner hit an RBI single back up the middle to cut Fort Myers’ lead to 7-6. After Lobliner stole second base, Miura came to the plate and hit a line drive down the right-field line to score two runs and walk off Fort Myers by a final score of 8-7. It was Palm Beach’s first walk-off win since May 30th and third walk-off win overall this season.
In his professional debut, Condon finished 2-for-5 with a double, run, and stolen base. Dos Santos scored two runs and Mitchell reached base four times to lead all Cardinals’ hitters. With the win and Daytona defeating Tampa on Tuesday night, Palm Beach remains eight games back of first place in the FSL East Division for the second half of the season.
