Chiefs lose to Sky Carp in extras in series opener

August 12th, 2026

In a dramatic series opener, seven of the 13 runs scored between the Chiefs and the Sky Carp came in the 10th inning, and Beloit held on for a 7-6 win on Tuesday night at Dozer Park.

With the loss, the Chiefs return to .500 in the second half with a 21-21 record.

Cody Schrier connected for his fifth home run of the season against the Chiefs in just his eighth game versus Peoria this year. His solo shot in the first made it 1-0 Beloit.

In the second, Starlyn Caba led off with a triple before Jacob Jenkins-Cowart brought him in with an RBI groundout to extend the Sky Carp’s lead to 2-0.

Peoria got on the board in the third inning when Andrew Williamson hit a sacrifice fly to score Ian Petrutz and cut the deficit to 2-1.

Brayden Smith followed with a two-run homer to left-center, landing on the grassy berm and scoring Cade McGee to give the Chiefs a 3-2 lead.

Both starters settled in from there. Peoria starter Ty Van Dyke tossed five innings, allowing two runs on six hits while walking two and striking out five.

After Van Dyke walked the final batter he faced to begin the sixth, Zeke Wood entered and issued three more walks. With a double-play groundout mixed in, Wood escaped the bases-loaded jam unscathed.

The next run didn’t come until the seventh, when Max Williams lifted a leadoff solo home run to left to tie the game at three.

Despite the long ball, Nate Dohm turned in three solid innings, allowing one run on two hits while walking one and striking out three.

The contest went to extras tied at three.

In the 10th, Patrick Galle walked three batters and allowed an RBI double from Hernandez and a two-run double to Dillon Head to put Beloit back in front, 7-3.

The Chiefs didn’t go down without a fight in the bottom half. Cade McGee ripped an RBI double to cut the deficit to 7-4 before a pair of Juan Reynoso wild pitches brought home Ian Petrutz and McGee to make it 7-6.

Reynoso clutched up to strike out the final three batters of the game, stranding the tying run on second to end the contest.

Peoria is now 4-3 in extra-inning games.

The Chiefs and the Sky Carp square off for game two of the series on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.
