In Saturday’s doubleheader at Dozer Park, the Chiefs dropped both games to the Sky Carp, falling 3-2 and 2-1.
With the losses, the Chiefs fell to 23-23 in the second half.
In game one, Peoria got out to a hot start behind its sizzling starter Brandon Clarke who retired the first nine batters he faced.
In the meantime, Sammy Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning to bring in Andrew Williamson after his single marked his first professional hit.
Caden Ferraro grounded into a forceout in the third inning, bringing in Brayden Smith from third after his one-out walk, to make it 2-0.
Beloit began its comeback in the fourth. Clarke walked Starlyn Caba, the first Sky Carp batter to reach base, before Cody Schrier doubled him home to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Brian Sanchez doubled in a run in the fifth to tie the game at two and Max Williams hit a leadoff home run in the sixth inning off Zeke Wood, who suffered the loss, to give the Sky Carp a 3-2 advantage.
Michael Perez earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, while Justin Storm worked two empty frames to record the save.
In game two, three consecutive walks loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the third before Ferraro hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Ryan Weingartner to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Peoria failed to add on, stranding the bases loaded.
That advantage was short lived, as Beloit took the lead in the fourth. Peoria starter Jacob Odle issued two walks and allowed a double before a wild pitch brought home Carter Johnson to tie the game at one. After Odle issued his third walk of the inning, Carlos Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Brian Sanchez and give Beloit a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ian Petrutz reached on a throwing error from the shortstop Chase Jaworsky. Petrutz advanced to second on another throwing error, this time on catcher Carlos Sanchez’s snap throw to first, but was eventually caught in a rundown between second and third. The Chiefs were unable to threaten again as 2-1 became the final score.
The series wraps up on Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
Kids 12 and under can run the bases, play catch on the field and collect their favorite players’ autographs after the game with their $5 ticket.
