Chiefs outfielder Won-Bin Cho has been named the Midwest League Player of the Week for May 26-31 by Major League Baseball. He is the first Chief to earn the weekly award this season.
Cho, 22, helped Peoria to a series win at Wisconsin by finishing the week 7-17 at the plate, with six of those hits going for extra bases (two triples and four doubles). His 1.445 OPS for the week led the Midwest League among hitters with more than 10 at bats.
The highlight of the award-winning week came on Thursday, when Cho finished 3-4 with 5 RBIs, including a bases-clearing, 3-RBI triple in the top of the eighth inning.
The week caps a career-month for Cho, who batted .325 with a 1.097 OPS and 5 home runs in 24 games in May. Through 43 games this season, Cho is batting .270 with seven home runs, 35 RBIs and a .920 OPS.
The lefthanded hitting outfielder was originally signed by the Cardinals as an international free agent out of Korea in January 2022.
Cho and the Chiefs are set to begin a six-game series with the Beloit Sky Carp on Tuesday night at Dozer Park. First pitch is set for 6:35pm and tickets are available online at PeoriaChiefs.com or at the Dozer Park Box office.
