Davenport, Iowa – For the second time this season, the Quad Cities River Bandits (64-52, 34-19) won a game on a wild pitch, as they defeated the Beloit Sky Carp (61-59, 34-21) 3-2 in 12 innings at Modern Woodmen Park.
The pitchers’ duel saw just two runs scored over the first nine innings of the game, with Starlyn Caba’s two-out RBI-single giving Beloit a 1-0 in the first inning against Jordan Woods.
Quad Cities mustered just three walks and was no-hit by reigning Midwest League Pitcher of the Week and Sky Carp starter Liomar Martinez, over the first six inning of the game, including eight strikeouts.
Woods, the River Bandits’ starter, allowed the one run over 4.2 innings and struck out four before Kamden Edge carried the game through the top of the seventh with 1.1-scoreless innings of relief.
Jose Cerice broke up both Beloit’s shutout and no-hit bid in the bottom of the frame, tying the contest 1-1 with an RBI-single. The hit also extended Cerice’s franchise-best on-base streak to 41 games.
Ethan McElvain (2.0 IP) followed Edge with a pair of scoreless innings before turning the ball to LP Langevin. The right-hander completed a clean top of the ninth, but surrendered a two-out RBI-single to Max Williams in the top of the tenth. Langevin limited the damage to a 2-1 Beloit lead by striking out Cody Schrier to end the inning.
The punchout, Langevin’s fifth of the game, marked the 100th of the 23-year-old’s season, making him the first River Bandits’ reliever to hit the century mark in a single season since Will Klein in 2021.
Quad Cities’ bats forced the game to the 11th inning courtesy of Zion Rose’s sacrifice-fly, which tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the 10th against Michael Perez.
Dash Albus carrier the River Bandits the rest of the way on the mound, keeping Beloit out of the run column in the top of the 11th and 12th including three strikeouts.
After failing to score against former River Bandit Jesus Rios in the 11th, Quad Cities won it in the 12th, moving the winning run to third via Nolan Sailors’ sacrifice-bunt before a wild 0-2 pitch was thrown to Austin Charles, bounced to the backstop, and allowed Cerice to sprint home from third to end the game.
Albus (3-2) earned the win for Quad Cities, while Rios (5-6) was saddled with the loss, allowing the unearned run over 1.1 innings.
Now with a one-game lead on Beloit for first place in the Midwest League West, the River Bandits return to Modern Woodmen Park for game two of the six-game series tomorrow night. Blake Wolters (3-8, 8.95) is slated to start opposite Brayan Mendoza (4-6, 5.66). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
