(Reading, PA) - The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Thursday that Reading Fightin Phils shortstop Bryan Rincon and pitcher Cody Bowker were named as the organization's Hitter and Pitcher of the Month.
Rincon, 22, appeared in 25 August games and posted a slash line of .330/.487/.580 (1.067 OPS). He added 22 runs scored, seven doubles, five home runs, and 10 RBI while walking 25 times and striking out 24 times. Amongst Phillies Minor Leaguers, Rincon either led or was tied for the organization's lead in average (.330), home runs (5), on-base percentage (.487), OPS (1.067), walks (25), extra-base hits (12), total bases (51), and runs (22). Rincon was second in slugging percentage (.580), second in hits (29), and second in doubles (7). Entering play on Thursday, Rincon is hitting .265 (105-396), with 47 extra-base hits (23 2B, 2 3B, 22 HR), 58 RBI, and 28 stolen bases. His nine leadoff home runs lead all of Minor League Baseball. The Phillies drafted Rincon in the 14th round of the 2022 draft out of Shaler High School in Pittsburgh.
The 22-year-old Bowker split August between Jersey Shore (A+) and Reading, making two starts at each spot. Over four starts, Bowker went 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA (6 ER, 19.0 IP) and 20 strikeouts. He allowed one run over five innings in each of his final three starts of the month, which included his final High-A start on Aug. 12 at Brooklyn and his Double-A debut on Aug. 20 at Portland. Among Phillies minor league pitchers, Bowker was tied for 10th in strikeouts (25), tied for eighth in innings pitched (19.0), and fifth in WHIP (0.79). Bowker is in his first professional season, and between Clearwater (A), Jersey Shore, and Reading, he is 5-5, with a 4.28 ERA (43 ER, 90.1 IP), along with 122 strikeouts (12.15 SO/9.0 IP) across 23 appearances and 21 starts. Bowker was selected by the Phillies in the third round of the 2025 draft out of Vanderbilt.
The Fightin Phils return home from Tuesday, September 8, through Sunday, September 13, against the Erie Seawolves, Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. On Tuesday, the first 1,000 fans receive a Pride Night R-Phils 32-ounce cup (Kutztown University and LGBTQ+ Resource Center at Kutztown University). Wednesday features a Game-Worn Pinstripe Jersey Auction/Raffle, while Thursday will be a Throwback Jersey Auction/Raffle. Friday night is a Prost Oktoberfest Tribute with fireworks (Savage Auto Group). It will be another Prost Oktoberfest Tribute on Saturday, with Carpenter MEGA Blast Fireworks (Penske). The series and regular season end on Sunday with Dinosaur Day, featuring Interactive Dinosaur Exhibits.
If the Fightin Phils make the Eastern League Playoffs, they will open the first postseason series on Tuesday, September 15 against the Hartford Yard Goats, Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Reading's magic number is eight, with 10 games to play.
