(Reading, PA) - Major League Baseball announced on Monday that Reading Fightin Phils shortstop Bryan Rincon was named Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 18-23.
Over six games at Portland last week, Rincon slashed .429/.484/.786 (1.270 OPS), along with eight runs, four doubles, two home runs, and four RBI. He had a hit in all six games, which included four multi-hit contests. Rincon's week was highlighted by a four-hit, three-double night on Thursday, along with a three-run game on Sunday.
The Phillies No. 5 prospect also clubbed leadoff home runs in back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday, marking his sixth and seventh leadoff home runs of the season. His home run on Saturday night was his 20th of the season, extending an already set career-high.
For the week, Rincon was tied for fourth in the Eastern League in average (.429), along with ranking 10th in on-base percentage (.484), fourth in slugging percentage (.786), fourth in OPS (1.270), first in hits (12), tied for first in doubles (4), first in extra-base hits (6), first in total bases (22) and tied for first in runs scored (8).
The 22-year-old Rincon has set career highs in nearly every offensive category this season. Over 102 games, he is slashing .267/.402/.501 (.903 OPS), along with 45 extra-base hits (23 doubles, two triples, and 20 home runs), 55 runs driven in, and 25-29 in stolen bases. Rincon is one of three players in the Eastern League to have over 20 home runs, 20 doubles, and 20 stolen bases, with teammate Raylin Heredia being one of the other two. He is one of six players in Double-A and one of 13 in all of Minor League Baseball to join the 20-20-20 club.
2026 is Rincon's first season in Double-A, as he appeared in 84 games for Jersey Shore (A+) in 2025. He split both 2024 and '23 between Jersey Shore and Clearwater (A) and began his pro career in 2022 with the FCL-Phillies (ROK).
Originally a native of New York City, Rincon played his high school baseball at Shaler Area High School in Pittsburgh, then was drafted by the Phillies in the 14th round of the 2022 draft. Rincon is the first Fightin Phil to earn Eastern League weekly honors since Luke Russo on Apr. 13.

The Fightin Phils remain home through Sunday, August 30, against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets. Wednesday is a Retro Animation Tribute with "Mickey Mouse" co-branded merchandise available. Thursday and Friday both feature fireworks. Saturday is a Post-Game Drone Show (Blue Ridge Remodeling) celebrating 60 Seasons of Phillies Affiliation and Celebrating "Swifties." The series ends Sunday with an appearance by the Phillie Phanatic (Berks County Intermediate Unit).
